Well MyUPS account caught it so it's on the way. Need to work up the reloads.

I don't recall. Does Samco send you out a tracking number when shipping?
    uPS or FedEx?

Well MyUPS account caught it so it's on the way. Need to work up the reloads.

Yep, Samco's email shipping notifications leave a lot to be desired... Sometimes voice communication is a little "iffy" too... But I've never had a problem with anything I've ordered from them.

For reloads I've had a lot of plinking fun with about any light to medium rifle powder loads using different 150/160 gr JB's in free range cases. I've also found .309/155 gr CB's with gas checks loaded with my JB charges work as well or better.

Looking forward to seeing what the BBTOH brings you...

Tomorrow I'll get my VZ. 24 from Rguns and Friday my SAMCO Spanish Mauser will be here.

A little nervous about how this thing is going to look...their description leaves it open to look like the beat to hell T53's and even have a cracked stock. But, All my T53's shoot great, as long as this shoots well I'll be happy. Even if it's UGLY

    Came in today.
decent packing job. Came with a sling.
Crest, Nice clean bore. Muzzle gauge reads just under the 1 mark
Couple passes with a patch and bore is clean and bright.
Small import under the muzzle. That cleaning rod looks like it was added during refurb? looks almost like stainless steel.
Interesting thing is I don't see the caliber. There is a faint stamp for the original 7.52? on the left side of the barrel/reciever. The import stamp is nicely tucked under the cleaning rod but I did not remove the rod yet to take a look.
The wood looks great. Don't see any cracks.

I like the condition of the bluing. Enough worn down to show the age.

the rear sight notch is REALLY shallow and narrow.
Bolt needs to be taken down and cleaned up. There is not alot of cosmo/grease, but enough to warrant cleaning up to make sure it pops off a round when I pull the triggger

Thx, I resisted really hard getting 2 on this one. Especially with free shipping.
I have been getting 2 of things, picking the one I like the best then offloading the other. Unfortunatly, I have a backlog of "other" to offload right now (M44 and M95 Steyr) plus 2 Service grade Garands on the way. I'll take this one and run with it. As I generally read up on the history of the conflicts that any C&R firearm may be involved in, once again, the Spanish Mausers were involved in a Brutal and often tragic scene repeated once again in a change of power in Spain.

Anyone know the history of the 308 conversion? What years it happened and what arsenal?

BTW, the crest is not as strong as my photo shows it. When I first looked at it under natural lighting in my sunroom, I could not even see the crest. I had to get the right lighting to have it show. It might help if I'd oiled it up some though.

Wow that looks great. Much better than my first Samco mauser. I had to email them today to see what was up with my order, and they replied about 5 mins later with a tracking number. My last one was like my beat up T53. I hope this one is nice like yours. Mine is going to mainly be a range toy and something for my wife/kids to shoot the 7.62 training ammo out of.

The last gun I bought in Maryland was a few years back at the Timonium Gun Show; the Spanish Mauser in .308 from a private seller. It's a beauty and shoots great. Now, the Maryland gun laws suck as well as the Timonium Gun Show.......

LOL, the difference between Melnic's and mine is like night and day.

I was happy with mine when I opened it, still am. It was better than I feared it COULD have been, but it's not even close to as nice as those. I didn't have time to take pics.

Mine has no crest, hardly any bluing, dark bore but rifling and crown look good. I got it at 2am for me so I just answered the door, opened it, and went back to sleep, so no time to do any cleaning or fondling.

The stock is solid, but not pretty.

But, no cracks and as long as mine is a good shooter, I will be happy.

And yeah, what is UP with that rear sight notch?! I actually like the sights on my K98, Yugo M24/47 is OK, as is the Vz. 24. But there's barely a notch here. My eyes suck, I may not be able to shoot this worth a poo!

I also find that full front sight hoods help me duplicate my sight picture quite a bit. Rifles with just side protectors I don't shoot as well. Something about the hood helps me, almost like a reverse peep sight.

I'll try to get pics up tomorrow of mine. Can't wait to shoot it!

Oh, and all the rifles I have received from SAMCO were impressively well packaged. Unlike some places where the bolt is sticking out of the box when it comes!

I really want on of these, for 170 ish you can't go wrong. I've heard so many different takes on .308 usage though. The consensus here seems to be that its safe so ill roll with it.

Melnic, you scored a nice example. It should be a good shooter.

As I and others have said, the iron sights suck. Your rifle will prob'ly print a foot high at 50 yards. That's OK. You'll get used to it and adjust.

The way SAMCO works is ...

    • You see something you like.
    • You order it.
    • You wait.
    • You check your e-mail and see nothing.
    • You wait some more.
    • You decide something must be wrong and determine to call them.
    • You decide to wait a couple more days, and you end up waiting longer.
    • The firearm finally shows up, it's packaged well, and it's in the condition described.

Sometimes they surprise you. My Spanish Mauser got here 5 days after I placed the order. My K31 took many weeks if I remember correctly. When I first asked them about it, they said something like "these will be ready to ship out soon"

Seems they may list stuff before it's actually ready to ship...

Wow...... Just broke into this rifle after I got home this morning. I hate to say it, but this is a piece of junk.

    1. Front barrel band/bayo lug flops around and isn't even close to anything resembling "tight"

    2. Sear mating surface isn't even square, it's like someone tried to file it but had the file at an angle.

    3. Floorplate is rusted in place and won't come off

    4. Follower spring is so floppy, follower flops around front to back and tilts side to side

    5. Isn't there supposed to be a spacer in the magwell for the cartridge conversion?

I hate to complain, but my beat to hell T53's were absolutely mechanically sound and solid, and 70 bucks cheaper.
