I'm gonna try and get it.

Hopeful that they still are considering business owners as having G&S.
I hope you get it......but the fact that MD isn't a shall issue state bothers me to the extreme. I've carried a firearm responsibly my entire adult life as a member if the armed forces and as a civilian. MD is treating us like children who don't know right from wrong. I'm at my wits end with the beauracracy that is the MD government.

I saw an article in the Times-News a few days ago for a class in Garrett County. It made it sound as if getting the permit was no hard thing to do. I know this is not the case. I can't find the article online and no longer have that days paper here.

    Handgun qualification
    course offered at ACM
    CUMBERLAND — Current
    and prospective firearms
    owners can gain safety training
    and qualify for Maryland
    licensure in two new courses
    offered by Allegany College of
    Maryland’s Center for Continuing
    Education and Workforce
    Development. Both are
    presented in partnership with
    Boston Hill Training, a local
    safety training company
    owned and operated by Rick
    Sivic Sr. of Frostburg.
    The Handgun Qualification
License will be offered July 26
from 8 a.m. to noon. Students
must be 21 years of age to
    enroll in the four-hour course,
    which includes classroom
    instruction on state firearms
    law, home firearms safety and
    handgun mechanisms and
    operationand safe firing of a
    handgun.
    The course’s classroom
portion is held at ACM, while
    the operation and handling
    demonstration occurs at a
    secure firing range. Firearms
    and ammunition will be supplied
    as students are not permitted
    to bring their own.
    Unless otherwise exempt,
as of Oct. 1, 2013, Maryland
    residents must possess a
    valid Handgun Qualification
    License, or HQL, before they
    may purchase, rent or
    receive a handgun. The training
    is valid for three years,
    must be completed prior to
    submitting an application for
an HQL. An HQL is not needed
    to possess a firearm in
    Maryland owned prior to Oct.
    1, 2013.
    Students also may enroll in
    the Maryland Wear and Carry
    Permit training, which will be
    offered Aug. 8 and 9 from 8
    a.m. to 4 p.m. Maryland’s 2013
    Firearms Safety Act, which
    took effect Oct. 1, changed
    training requirements for all
    Maryland Wear and Carry
    permit holders.
    The updated training consists
    of 16 hours of instruction
    that includes state firearms
    law, home firearms safety and
    handgun mechanisms and
    operation and the required
    demonstration of gun safety
    and proficiency with a minimum
    score of 70 percent
    accuracy.
    The classroom portion of
    the Wear and Carry Permit
course is held at ACM while
    the operation and handling
    demonstration occurs at a
    secure firing range.
    Successful completion of
    the course does not guarantee
    the awarding of a Wear
and Carry Permit by the state
of Maryland. To be eligible to
    receive a permit, applicants
must be 18 years of age or
    older and display a substantial
    reason to wear, carry or
    transport a handgun.

Yeah - I know it is a real mess. I dragged my feet getting my app in last year before the changes, so now I have to do it this way.
My neighbor in the same shopping plaza got his app in back in July 2013 and had a permit issued. Restricted of course, but go it none the less.

Good for him, but this doesn't console me one bit. I don't own a business, so MD doesn't deem me responsible enough to carry a firearm. This is total BS.....plain and simple. I will continue to fight for the rights of fellow Marylanders until this state is Shall Issue, or I move to a truly "free" state like VA or PA.

Thanks. That is the passage that to me, sounds like everybody could get one.

    I know thats not true.
