OK, so I found a used S&W 629 Competitor (44 Magnum). After getting all excited, I got to thinking and looked on the Handgun Roster list. It has many different Model 629's on it but I don't explicitly see the "Competitor". Is it OK because it is a Model 629, or does it have to explicitly say "Competitor" in the list for it to be OK?

Its tough to say. I think you would be OK but with the electronic 77r that the dealer has to fill out, they ask for more and more information.

More important than asking any of us keyboard cowboys, you need to speak to your FFL to see what they say. We can tell you that you are good but if no FFL will submit the 77r then you are stuck playing the waiting game to get it added to the roster.

The FFL that you use is the final checkpoint before the state gets it so what they say matters most.

google is your friend, I am not.
You can call the roster board at 410-653-4247 and ask. Id say 90% chance the ffl will just put model 629 on the 77r and you will be GTG. They have listed a lot of styles of 629s, but not every permutation of every model's style is listed (models come in various styles with packages of sights, grips, barrel length, etc). What matters is the model (629) and caliber.

You know, the roster has been changed making it more harassing than it used to be. When I had my business, and the roster was in print, they used to list by caliber and not cartridge. I remember it used to say S&W Model 25 Caliber 45 All models, Colt Model 1911 Caliber 45 all models.

This State really is the ******* of the world. :mad54:

I grew up in Wildwood New Jersey and hunted with shotguns for years. Never knew what the gun laws were as I never bought a new gun there. ;)

I am going there next week for some fishing and, yes, I will be leaving my EDC gun home. :sad20:
