Have you ever wanted to try sporting clays? Ever wondered what it’s like to crush those clay targets? Want to meet up with like-minded shooters and try "golf with a shotgun?"
Bring your over/under, your dad's old hunting gun or your tricked-out riot gun and spend a day down on the farm busting clays, eating barbecue, enjoying some fellowship and maybe even winning some prizes. You don’t need any special gear to try one of America’s fastest growing shooting sports.
Clays of Caring 2013 will be held on 12 Oct at Hopkins Game Farm in Kennedyville. This is a sporting clays fun shoot where you have the option of a 50-target full course or a 25-target intro course. There will be some friendly competition among individual shooters and teams. All for bragging rights of course! Now, the shooting is important, but keep in mind that we also will have a great barbecue lunch that is included with registration.
On the 50-target course, you will shoot around 12 different target presentations that are designed to be both fun and challenging. You can shoot individually or join up with a few other folks to form a squad. Squads of four shooters will be in the running for the team awards. Registration for this option will include shooting fees, lunch, t-shirt and a raffle ticket for a shotgun giveaway.
On the 25-target course, you will shoot 3-4 different target presentations designed to introduce new clay shooters to this exciting sport. At each of the shooting stations, we will have some informal coaching available, as well as shells. Loaner shotguns in 12 and 20 gauge will be available if necessary. Registration for this option will include shooting fees, lunch, shells and a t-shirt.
Eye and ear protection are required. No shot size larger than #7.5 is permitted.
Around 11am, BBQ Grills Catering will open up the dining pavilion for lunch. These guys have proven themselves up to the task of making great pulled pork and smoked chicken over the past couple of years. You will not want to miss out on lunch, so start shooting early!
After lunch, we will have a raffle drawing for a shotgun giveaway. Last year, one of our shooters went home with a nice Weatherby! The winner will have the option of taking the gun or using its value as store credit for anything in the gun shop. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased at the event if you want to increase your chances of winning!
Sporting clays instructor and nationally-ranked sporting clays shooter Jack Concannon has donated a lesson that will be included in the raffle drawings.
Our other sponsors provide a bunch of prizes for additional raffle drawings that will take place after lunch as well. These prizes include hats, t-shirts, shooting gear and shooting-oriented gifts. We are also able to mix in some gift cards to sponsors and local businesses as well.
This is a laid back event where we want folks to enjoy the day with other shooters in the community and maybe try something different. Bring your family and friends. We have had some young shooters do really well on the course in the past!
Come on out and shoot with us! We're just a bunch of folks trying to make connections to the shooting community and raise a few bucks to benefit the United Way.
Give me a holler if you have any questions or need any further information.
