Have you ever wanted to try sporting clays? Ever wondered what it’s like to crush those clay targets? Want to meet up with like-minded shooters and try "golf with a shotgun?"

Bring your over/under, your dad's old hunting gun or your tricked-out riot gun and spend a day down on the farm busting clays, eating barbecue, enjoying some fellowship and maybe even winning some prizes. You don’t need any special gear to try one of America’s fastest growing shooting sports.

Clays of Caring 2013 will be held on 12 Oct at Hopkins Game Farm in Kennedyville. This is a sporting clays fun shoot where you have the option of a 50-target full course or a 25-target intro course. There will be some friendly competition among individual shooters and teams. All for bragging rights of course! Now, the shooting is important, but keep in mind that we also will have a great barbecue lunch that is included with registration.

On the 50-target course, you will shoot around 12 different target presentations that are designed to be both fun and challenging. You can shoot individually or join up with a few other folks to form a squad. Squads of four shooters will be in the running for the team awards. Registration for this option will include shooting fees, lunch, t-shirt and a raffle ticket for a shotgun giveaway.

On the 25-target course, you will shoot 3-4 different target presentations designed to introduce new clay shooters to this exciting sport. At each of the shooting stations, we will have some informal coaching available, as well as shells. Loaner shotguns in 12 and 20 gauge will be available if necessary. Registration for this option will include shooting fees, lunch, shells and a t-shirt.

Eye and ear protection are required. No shot size larger than #7.5 is permitted.

Around 11am, BBQ Grills Catering will open up the dining pavilion for lunch. These guys have proven themselves up to the task of making great pulled pork and smoked chicken over the past couple of years. You will not want to miss out on lunch, so start shooting early!

After lunch, we will have a raffle drawing for a shotgun giveaway. Last year, one of our shooters went home with a nice Weatherby! The winner will have the option of taking the gun or using its value as store credit for anything in the gun shop. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased at the event if you want to increase your chances of winning!

Sporting clays instructor and nationally-ranked sporting clays shooter Jack Concannon has donated a lesson that will be included in the raffle drawings.

Our other sponsors provide a bunch of prizes for additional raffle drawings that will take place after lunch as well. These prizes include hats, t-shirts, shooting gear and shooting-oriented gifts. We are also able to mix in some gift cards to sponsors and local businesses as well.

This is a laid back event where we want folks to enjoy the day with other shooters in the community and maybe try something different. Bring your family and friends. We have had some young shooters do really well on the course in the past!

Come on out and shoot with us! We're just a bunch of folks trying to make connections to the shooting community and raise a few bucks to benefit the United Way.

Give me a holler if you have any questions or need any further information.

You can just show up the day of the event.

But, if you pre-register, we can plan better for t-shirts and lunch. We want to make sure we have enough of each and correct sizes for t-shirts.

Registration is handled by Hopkins Game Farm. Their contact info is in the first post.

Really nice to have some interest brewing!

Make sure you stop in at Molly's Place Sporting Goods while in the area. Great gun room!

Things are coming together for next weekend!

Our sponsors are busy stocking us up with door prizes and getting their teams ready for the 50 target event.

We are headed out soon to decide on the raffle shotgun prize. You can purchase extra raffle tickets to try win the shotgun. If you do win, you can also use the value of the shotgun as store credit and do some shopping!

There will be a challenge game where you will be able to compete for gift cards as prizes!

It's a bit early, but the long-range forecast looks good!

Hope to see you out there!

That is great! We really try to make this family-oriented and friendly for new shooters. Make sure you look for the organizers and introduce yourself. My name is Troy. My cohorts are Jim, Jud and Carolann.

We are a rain or shine event! Looks like the weather is improving for this weekend (12 Oct). Come on out and enjoy a day busting clays down on the farm!

Our new 2013 sponsors (X-Ring, American K9 and B.I.L., and more!) have all stepped up to help make this a great event!

Bragging rights and trophies are on the line for the 50-target shooters…bring your A-game! There will also be a challenge station where you could win Molly's Place gift cards!

Lunch (by Meat Mechanics BBQ) keeps getting better. The pulled pork and chicken are fantastic … and we will also be able to try their brisket tacos!

For 2014, the top raffle prize is a Browning BPS 12ga! Lots of other goodies as well!

    Hope to see you there!
