Back in the early '60s a near new 1928a1 Thompson cost around $100. A Sten could be bought for about $20. Live 37mm cannon, Boyes AT rifles and other such stuff was dirt cheap. The catch , as always, was the federal paperwork and the $200 taxstamp "Deactivated" Stens with only a small spot...
Very nice! What condition is the bore? I have a couple of NOS original barrels--parkerized, still in original grease--if you need one as a replacement.
I am suspicious by nature and the bidding and ID of bidders caused my old-timey ex intelligence analyst spidey sense to tingle. I wonder when I see high bids by newbies on Gunbroker with a history of like 2 or 5 previous purchases.
I think either "shill bidding" or perhaps money laundering...
OK, after waiting 8 days for the no reserve Gunbroker auctions to end last night, there was a crazy bidding war on both of the US&S gunsthat went on for hours.
Got the final results this morning. The better-but not perfect-gun listed as number 555947713 ACTUALLY sold for $12,354 The...
Spare barrel came with gun as add-on option. Dark black oxidefinish but no markings that I can see...original US&S barrels were stamped with HS for high standard and had a "p" proof. Cannot check installed barrel without screwing up preservative .
Thanks forinfo. What do you mean by "troubled"? I am trying to learn all I can about this gun. BTW, I looked at the two big dollar auctions on Gunbroker. Condition looked too good to be true--are these re-parks or touched up as they show no wear marks at all. ????
Next installment---This gun is typical of an original, unmolested US&S gun:
Two-tone du-lite finish, hardened slide nose, keyes fiber grips, Scovill magazine (all three are Scovill), unique serrated trigger, hammer, takedown latch, safety.
Marked with RCD inspectors stamp, p proof, and correct...
My third attempt at follow up--computer keeps killing post.
US&S made 55,000 guns in 1943, most went to the OSS and to lend lease(mainly the Nationalist Chinese). This one was stored at Red River Army depot for 15 years and released to the DCM--Director of Civilian Marksmanship--now the CMP...
From WAY back in the safe, here is a gun that has sat untouched, unfired and still in original packing since I bought it in 1967. It is a rare (55,000 made) Union Switch and Signal 1911a1 45acp service pistol made in 1943 in Swissvale, PA.
Having some trouble with computer so will use this...
Thanks, BTW you don't load potatoes---you distill them and drink them!!!
Or , as the old,old joke goes: How about an Irish 7 course meal--- a six pack of Harp beer and a potato...,.,.
St Patrick's Day is upon us so I thought I would start a thread on Irish guns. I only have three so feel free to add to this thread. This post heavily relies on photos and I hope I can import and attach properly.
My earliest gun is a 1760-era 69 cal Dragoon pistol. Not a museum piece but all...
Don't want to monopolize this thread but offer on last bit of info: relining is always done on a 7.63 gun but sometimes a conversion to 9mm (red nine)involves re-cutting lands and grooves into barrel and cleaning up chamber to accept 9mm. Advantage of 9mm is its cheaper, more plentiful and...
C96 has conventional rifling. Most Chinese contract imports appear to be almost completely eroded through use of "hot" Russian submachine gun corrosive ammo and improper cleaning for 50 years. Believe CZ uses "polygonaL" barrel that is shaped to spin bullet --not conventional lands and grooves...

How about a .177 M14? Take a Vietnam era well-used walnut stock from Freds, add a Winchester M14 co2 action an 20 round mag, add lead weight and steel barrel sleeve to bring to proper weight and balance and spray with Brownwells parkerizing spray. Slightly muzzle light but shoulders and points...
I have 3 trapdoors and fire them on occasion. Enjoy firing off a few blanks on 4 July and New Years, etc. Marine line-throwing guns use a blank 45-70 black powder
cartridge that is really loud and puts out a good cloud of smoke. These are available at commercial marine supply stores...
Welcome---We spent 3 years in England back in the '70s--
RAF Chicksands in Bedfordshire. Lived in Hitchin and North Bedford while there. I still own antique weapons like Brown Bess Muskets, dragoon pistols, swords, etc that I bought then. Managed to tour entire UK from Lands End to John...
