Long time lurker here but I have to add my 2 cents. I moved out of MD a couple months ago for VA. I'm fortunate that my employment, family, and financial situation made it easy to do but also understand that not everyone is in the same boat. Two decades of putting up with the politics and...
Try Don Stoops at Sharpsburg Arsenal on Main Street in Sharpsburg. It's a quite extensive Civil War shop and he should be able to help you out. (717) 762-1622 You'll also be a mile or so from Antietam NBP HQS so a ranger may be willing to help too.
I've filled out the State Police form for Firearms Collector status but it has to be notarized by a Maryland Notary Public prior to being sent in. Odd as it sounds, I've never had to notarize anything here in MD. Any of my work/banking notarizations have been in VA or DC. Where in Maryland...
Does anyone have any experience with a Hi-Point 9mm Carbine? I'm thinking about picking one up but haven't had the chance to handle the gun. At +/-$250 they seem to be an affordable plinker with a lifetime warranty. The Beretta CX4 and Kel-Tec Sub 2000 are other 9mm cabines on the market but...
AIM won't ship ammo despite my repeated requests that they research the current case law here in MD. SOG, J&G, Classic, Cabela's, and several others have no problem with sending ammo to MoCo. AIM will ship C&R handguns here but don't try to figure out the logic behind that policy.
Ultramax is what Cabela's sends out when you order their bulk .223 ammo. It's good enough for plinking, probably a step above Wolf or Silver Bear because you can save the brass.
My procedure after working on three of them: Stock goes in the dishwasher (on Pot Scrubber cycle with LOTS of detergent) to clean off the cosmo you can't wipe off. Take it out before the dry cycle kicks in. Air dry for at least two days then put on three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane finish...
I've ordered from both and have been happy with the product and service provided by each. I did have an issue with an SOG rifle and they went out of their way to make it right. You won't go wrong with either company.
I had one bad 250 round case of Bulgarian - 10% were duds or had split cases but they came on stripper clips so that made up for it. The Bulgarian yellow tip heavy ball has been good to go and at around $50 for a can of 300, a pretty good deal. The 50 rounds of WWII era Russian I picked up at...
M-44. It's more fun to shoot if stiff recoil doesn't bother you. Big fireball, big report, fairly accurate if you get a post-war date with low mileage. Then start saving up for the 91/30.
I've tried a couple times to get the point across to AIM that the MoCo law has been rendered invalid but I've had no luck convincing them. I suppose they don't want to be part of any potential test case. I wouldn't put it past the elected officials here to go forward with a criminal case...
