      CMP service grade M1 Garand

Is there any legal reason I could buy four M1 Garands, keep the best of the them, and then sell the others?

      Anyone with a Hungarian 35M or 43M?

I recently acquired a Hungarian 35M rifle, and I believe the bolt head on it was replaced with one from a 43M. The bolt heads are interchangeable except the 35M is 8x56R while the 43M is 7.92x57 (8mm Mauser). As such, it currently cannot feed and cannot fire. If there's someone in the are...

      M95 stock finish coming off

Roger. I'll just go ahead and research that. Researching makes me happy. :)

      M95 stock finish coming off

Do I need to worry about incompatibility between the existing oil finish and TruOil?

      C&R transfers out of state

From my research it seems out of state FTF C&R transfers between Maryland residents is a very grey area legally. However, everything I read was a couple years old. As there been any clarification on the legality of that?

      M95 stock finish coming off

So the winning solution was Scotch Brite Heavy Duty Industrial scrubbing pads. They tear through the shellac/lacquer/crap that's on there and don't harm the wood underneath. I'll post up some pictures once I'm done. The wood underneath still looks good. If there anything I should do to protect...

      M95 stock finish coming off

It's really slow going with the denatured alcohol and it's really difficult getting it out of the grain. In hidden spot I also tried acetone, mineral spirits, and Citristrip and the denatured alcohol works the best. Do you see any issue with soaking the stock in the alcohol for a while, then...

      CMP service grade M1 Garand

I know my HQL satisfies the marksmanship training requirement, but can someone recommend a group to satisfy the shooting organization requirement?

      M95 stock finish coming off

I've attached two pictures that hopefully show the issue well enough. The dull areas are where the finish has already come off.

      M95 stock finish coming off

Since it's definitely not an oiled finished it sounds like I'm okay to remove it. Thank you for the alcohol suggestion, I should actually have some on hand and will give it a try before just scraping it off.

      M95 stock finish coming off

I have a new-to-me Mannlicher M95 I just finished cleaning up. The stock has a dark brown finish on it, but the top layer of the finish appears to be coming off. It's already missing in patches, and it can easily be scraped off with a fingernail. Underneath it is...another brown finish. I...

      CMP service grade M1 Garand

I pretty figured at worst, I wouldn't lose money buying from the CMP.

      CMP service grade M1 Garand

I'd really like to add an M1 Garand with some history on it to my collection, and the CMP currently has service grade ones available for $750. That seems like a good price too me, and I know the ones coming from the CMP have been around and seen some stuff. Is there a reason I shouldn't...

Removing black staining from raw steel parts

*Shrug* It's my time, and it's worth it to me.

Removing black staining from raw steel parts

I'm working on cleaning up several old WWI era firearms, and some of the raw steel parts have a lot of black staining on them. I assume this is from surface corrosion, as I've commonly seen it on other old firearms as well. While I very much love and plan to keep the patina on the blued parts...
