I recently acquired a Hungarian 35M rifle, and I believe the bolt head on it was replaced with one from a 43M. The bolt heads are interchangeable except the 35M is 8x56R while the 43M is 7.92x57 (8mm Mauser). As such, it currently cannot feed and cannot fire.
If there's someone in the are...
From my research it seems out of state FTF C&R transfers between Maryland residents is a very grey area legally. However, everything I read was a couple years old. As there been any clarification on the legality of that?
So the winning solution was Scotch Brite Heavy Duty Industrial scrubbing pads. They tear through the shellac/lacquer/crap that's on there and don't harm the wood underneath. I'll post up some pictures once I'm done.
The wood underneath still looks good. If there anything I should do to protect...
It's really slow going with the denatured alcohol and it's really difficult getting it out of the grain. In hidden spot I also tried acetone, mineral spirits, and Citristrip and the denatured alcohol works the best. Do you see any issue with soaking the stock in the alcohol for a while, then...
Since it's definitely not an oiled finished it sounds like I'm okay to remove it.
Thank you for the alcohol suggestion, I should actually have some on hand and will give it a try before just scraping it off.
I have a new-to-me Mannlicher M95 I just finished cleaning up. The stock has a dark brown finish on it, but the top layer of the finish appears to be coming off. It's already missing in patches, and it can easily be scraped off with a fingernail. Underneath it is...another brown finish.
I...
I'd really like to add an M1 Garand with some history on it to my collection, and the CMP currently has service grade ones available for $750.
That seems like a good price too me, and I know the ones coming from the CMP have been around and seen some stuff.
Is there a reason I shouldn't...
I'm working on cleaning up several old WWI era firearms, and some of the raw steel parts have a lot of black staining on them. I assume this is from surface corrosion, as I've commonly seen it on other old firearms as well. While I very much love and plan to keep the patina on the blued parts...
And am I correct if the barrel is not a HBAR then I'm only breaking the law if I attach it to a lower, correct?
So if it arrives and the barrel is not a HBAR, I can just swap out the barrel for an actual HBAR and then legally assemble it into a complete rifle?
Apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask this in.
I'm looking at this upper from Palmetto State Armory and wanted to confirm it's legal to build into a rifle in Maryland since it has a 16" heavy profile barrel...
That's pretty much the direction I'm coming from. If there's any grey area, I don't want any part of it.
If I email the ATF for clarification, and they come back and so it's fine, is that good enough? Or is that just one agent's opinion?
I'm just a hobby machinist and have a mini mill and mini lathe in my basement. It's a hobby only and I don't make any money from them.
After reading letter 11711 from BATFE, I'm not sure if a friend can come over and use my mini mill for free for an 80% lower or not. While the letter does...
