I like the savage axis youth rifles too, but I liked the feel of the mossberg better for some reason. But that's me...I need to get my 10-year old to handle both and see which one he likes. I also looked at the ruger american ranch in 7.62x39. It got a good review in american hunter. But I...
That DNR person must have misunderstood the question or was just referring to the regulation for deer hunting with a handgun, which is the 6" min. length and min. 700 ft-lbs. of muzzle energy. Or just plain wrong.
Anyone have experience with the Mossberg Patriot Youth rifle? I'm looking for a beginner deer rifle for my 10 year old son. Probably going with .243. I like the feel and trigger on the Mossberg...and the price. Also looked at Savage and Remington.
Thoughts?

I checked in COMAR for the language too and it's verbatim what the DNR regs state. I saw on one "lawyer" site where they claim to provide COMAR...
So it's legal to carry in Region A now while bowhunting. I knew they had proposed that reg but thought it hadn't been approved yet. Good to know. I had a bear (small one) walk up on me while bow hunting on Dans Mountain last year. I was on the ground but it never saw me...I just watched him...
Hey Park Ranger. I have the schedule for the matches...but I don't know the specifics about what I would need and the differences between the match types. I'll send you a PM with my contact info and maybe we can chat about it. I'd love to give it a try...if it ever warms up out here, LOL!
Have not yet. I've shot in some of the action pistol shoots. I'd like to try some of the rifle leagues this year. I just ordered (as in yesterday) a savage msr-10 in 6.5 CM. I'll check the schedule and try it out.
