anyone know of some decent shooting ranges in berk./ jef. / or morgan counties?

i usually go to sleepy creek gun range but last time i was there it was a big mess with spent brass everywhere but i cant complain for it going out to 200 yards..

but anyone with a home set up range? or decent membership or other range?

btw.. i usually shoot .22 rimfire to large magnum calibers if needed...

Isn't there a shooting/sportsmans club in Maryland across the Potomac and a mile or so downriver from Shepherdstown? I went by it a couple times a few years ago while doing some Civil War touring. The seemed to be set up for skeet shooting but I recall it had an area to sight in a rifle.

Sleepy Creek can be messy and full of mud but there aren't many better options at that price. Too bad it's 80+ miles each way from the heart of MoCo.

I may be mistaken but I think that is Tuscarora shooting club.

Where exactly the IS the Sleepy Creek WMA range? I have a weekend place at Riverbend in the Marlowe/Falling Waters area off 81 near the MD-WV line, but I can't a good address or directions. How much does it cost? What can you shoot there? Thanks in advance for the info fellas.

It is free to shoot and has a 200 yard line with 8 benches. I know this is not an easy explanation but..

From 81 take 15 West (exit 13) follow it, it becomes Route 18 and you go past the town (if you can call it that) of Shanghai, the road is then known as Hampshire Grade Road (County Road 7-13). You will go up the mountain and at the top there is a left onto a dirt road. There used to be a sign for Sleepy Creek WMA, but I do not know if it is there. If you start going down the west side of the mountain, you passed the road. Once youn turn down the road (Target Lane) and the range is a little bit down on the right.

You can look up the turn at Target Lane by these Lat/Longs at Google Maps

    +39°27'27.03" -78°10'23.16"

ha i have freinds in my schoolthat live near riverbend and go and mess with the security guards and steal golf carts lol..

but sleepy creek range is kind of messy but it goes out 200 yards and you can pretty much shoot anything except full auto (public range) as for location.... its kind of hard to explain but i could take you up there one day just pm me when you wanna go and i'll show you around

also, if you reload, its a gold mine for spent brass as noone ever cleans it up, they just wipe it onto the floor or leave it on the bench. and its free to shoot all day.

about a summer or 2 ago i went there with my mom and a freind and the national gaurd was there with free crap to give out and trying to recruit people and there to talk to people it was cool, they gave me some sand bags, info, and a dvd.

but its all cool there, just a bit messy

Thanks for the info. Tell your "friends" that they better be careful F'n around with our property at Riverbend. We are stepping up security and we have a citizens watch ,including my son and I, to combat scumbag thieves. Security will call the police but if the watch gets ya we will beat that ass and make them sorry they ever messed around with other peoples hard-earned property.

New indoor pistol range opening 6/1 down at Valley Guns just outside of Inwood, you can see it from 81 on the right going south. I took a tour yesterday nice place, it's down in the basement I believe I saw 10 lanes. Motorized target recall, A/C, just putting the finial touches. Looks promising.

Man, I drove up to Sleepy Creek the other weekend, just to see where it was, holy shit is that thing up on top of a mountain. Supposedly 11 miles from Martinsburg, took me I think almost an hour from the Hedgesville exit off 81 to get there.

lol somone get lost much? try driving up that friggen road at 3 in the moring in the cold, wet, thick ass fog... you think thats bad? wait till you drive on those narrow bumpy trails..

but you can complain for shooting for free... i can shoot at my friends places closer to me ( 5 minutes off 81) and have a better range than what sleepy creek has... but you cant pick up free brass like you can at sleepy creek:D

edit: did you take the exit for the new wal mart they built?

Actually, didn't get lost much at all, just crawling up that mountain with the sheer cliff on the right wasn't exactly speedy. I went up in the early after noon, I wouldn't want to do that drive at night.

Nah, I took the Rt 9 exit, all the way up through Hedgesville, made the left after Tuscarora down 7, I think it is, then a right into the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area.

    sleepy creek

sleepy creek can be ok,but on the weekends not the safest shoot in the world-i've left once due to it not being worth the risk-unsupervised and lots of unsafe acts(kids swinging around loaded 1911's and such)-there is also a rule now where all rifles can have no more than 3 rnds loaded at on time-didn't used to be that way but to many morons blowing holes in the roof, outhouse etc.-scott
