I like mosin's I shoot the heck out of mine, but not once could I fathom doing that to one.
Yup, some are less than $99 bucks, and I'm good with sporter-izing the less collectible ones, but still - that boy ain't right.

That IS pretty trick looking, but did you notice the scope mount blocks the top of the receiver where you'd load a new clip in? Then again most people load Mosins one round at a time because they're so hard to load, but that's just been my experience.

I've noticed that about more than one gunsmith. Have you watched any of the AGI gunsmithing videos? must be the exposure to solvents and lead hehe
