I replaced the stocks as the Hogue rubber was simply too small for my hands and I don't like finger groove stocks anyway the new stocks are walnut with a King Cobra on the sides...plus changed the fiber optic front sight to a Wilson Combat white gold sight...

Here it is with my 4.25" King Cobra .22 I purchased last year with identical front sight and similar stocks but in maple...

Another one of that gentleman’s fine pieces. This might be my favorite fancy revolver I’ve ever taken a picture of and fondled of all time. .45 acp Smith

Personally I prefer this, less full engraving over the fuller style on the Colt SSA above. But both are nice. Engraving should be a stand alone thread. I know a little, but a lot I don't.
Excellent pic also.
IIRC there is an English style and a German style. Maybe more; I've seen some Colt SSA's with what I would call a sunburst style/Tex/Mex style. IDK.Thanks brother! Yeah that Smith is SPECIAL.

Colt goes A,B,C,D grade, with D being full coverage. I believe S&W is the reverse of that.IIRC there is an English style and a German style. Maybe more; I've seen some Colt SSA's with what I would call a sunburst style/Tex/Mex style. IDK.
Then there are grades of coverage; A, B, C.
I don't recall exactly but IIRC A is the lowest with C the highest.
IIRC neither the Colt or S&W custom shop engrave anymore. The Colt shop refers out to someone in NY(?) who used to work for Colt and does great refurbishing. Can't recall the name.
IIRC there are other shops around that appear to do good work.
I went down this rabbit hole a few years back. You can get it done but you pay.
You got me thinking about my NIB 45LC 4.75 unfired sitting there.
John Waynes belt 45 in the Shootist.
For giggles and to make me feel like a poor slob who will never advance in life beyond small mammeried crazy redheads; can you share the hammer price?Colt goes A,B,C,D grade, with D being full coverage. I believe S&W is the reverse of that.
BTW, the Colt in that pic is the one I donated to be auctioned off to benefit MSI several years ago. The crappy cell phone pic really doesn't do it justice.
I think it only brought $3,000. Far below what it should have brought. Even so, it brought more than I paid for it. The master engraver that did it, did a lot of work for Ruger and it was not factory engraved by Colt, which probably explains it. The Collector of engraved Colts that won the auction said that it was the finest engraving he had ever seen, even superior to that of Colts' master engravers. Old school hand engraving, not the machine powered engraving tools used by most engravers today. For giggles and to make me feel like a poor slob who will never advance in life beyond small mammeried crazy redheads; can you share the hammer price?
Damn! Is that an unfluted cylinder on that Python?
I didn’t need to know that existedYes…it is an unfluted cylinder. It’s called the Combat Python Elite. Besides the unfluted cylinder…it has abbreviated grips and a tall, tritium front sight.
It‘s pretty amazing how much heavier the revolver is without the flutes.
I didn’t need to know that existed
I have one revolver with an unfluted cylinder and I just find them to be beautiful.

It’s a Model 29 Classic Hunter Special Order made in the early 90s.Which S &W is that? Looks like a 586.
I’ve got a 686+ TALO edition with an unfluted cylinder.
