I'm looking for woods, or farm property that I can rent for shooting practice. Does anyone know where I can look up this information? I was thinking about going around a few feed stores to ask, but maybe there's something online?

I live South of Frederick. Willing to pay rent if it's reasonable. Pistols, maybe long gun, occasional shotgun use. Don't need any facilities or structures.

Just being cheap - don't want to pay range prices or deal with crowding.

    Thanks!

If such a close-to-suburbia place existed, and its owner was willing to deal with the possibly enormous legal liability and related complications, and leasing many acres of land was somehow cheaper than the pizza-or-so it costs to go to a range, it would of course already have long since been rented out by somebody else.

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but this has been chased around the barn countless times before. You're better off looking in WV, perhaps. Or, really, for the money/hassle, just going to AGC or the like, and being done with it.

Everyone wants to head out to the woods and have their own freedom to plink and play however they like. That's natural. But the demand for wildly outstrips the supply of such things.

Good Luck! @Occam is correct above.

OP - you'd also likely have better replies if you posted up in the intro forum so folks can get to know you a bit better. Asking about private land to shoot on as a first post rarely goes well here.

Regarding your inquiry, I would think if your main focus is cost, renting 10 acres is likely more expensive than getting a range/club membership and with less amenities.

Thanks. A fuller explanation as to why my question seemed silly. I did look around this website and didn't see anything that addressed...

A hour radius of Fredrick is slightly more feasable to exist , than the usual pipedreams of such within hour radius of Balt- Wash corridor .

But making a cold connection with some farmer/ large landowner who isn't already a close friend or relative is near zero .

Short answers - Consult a Realtor to purchase your own suitable property , or just join a Club . You have several close to you .

Ok, thanks for the advice. As far as posting here - seemed appropriate since this is the regional forum closest to me.

Intros - didn't think that was important. I mean, anyone could post anything, right? It's the continuity of messages where you get a feel for the person. But I'll take your advice and introduce myself and my situation. I do have other questions to ask you good people.

In a way, the various responses I've gotten to my apparently eye-rolling post was a great introduction of you folks to me. :)

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep

And I have promises to keep ....
Possibly the best response of all. :)

Here's a couple lines from one of my favorites:

Thanks. Wasn't thinking of 10 acres, at least not until I get that tank I've got my eye on.

    Will do intro soon. :)

Thanks to you, too. I'm aware of the MGN and the MPC. Any others?
