They are excellent for folks who can’t rack a standard slide because of medical conditions or poor hand strength. There are better guns if you don’t have that issue

I have the EZ9 and I really like mine. I bought it for my wife to shoot, but she wasn’t a fan of it.
It’s been very reliable and accurate too.

If I was in the market for that style handgun now, I’d look at the equalizer. Same features, same size, but more capacity.

This is the reason I got one for my wife. She has shoulder/ hand issues, plus she’s a trigger snob. The EZ has a decent trigger, because it’s hammer fired. I thought she’d enjoy the trigger. she grew up shooting single action revolvers and 1911’s and hates pretty much anything else. Lol.

I’ve worked a couple gun shows with Genesis Firearms. We sold a ton of them.

I’d look at the Ruger Security 380.

But I’m a RugerFanBoyfromDE so what do I know?

I know it’s the same size as my Security 9 Compact. It’s supposed to be very EZ to rack and one can obtain 12 rd mags for it.

Retailers are already selling it for just $300.

Anyone have an opinion on these?
My wife owned one until recently and liked it very much. Mags are a little expensive but they are well made. I changed the sights to Fiber Optics and it was pretty accurate out to 15 yards. The trigger is pretty crisp after you break it in and you never notice the grip saftey.

It is lite but has a good grip on it and handles well. We never had any issues with it though 750 some rounds.

Wife has one,, Had issues with the "grip safety"
If you have a "perfect grip" it is not an issue, but more than once in some speed drills her grip loosened or moved and the gun would not fire.
So if you have a perfect grip eveytime, even in a panic situation, no problem.

I used the EZ when I had to do a qualification test when my left arm was broken. I couldn't get a good grip with an arm with a compound fracture in a cast. Good gun and it has its purpose.

As others have mentioned, the wife has one. She has wrist issues and her EZ9 makes racking the slide more comfortable. The magazines are easier on her as well. The side tabs on the follower makes it EZ for her to pull down the follower to load ammo.

At the time we took our test, my wife was shooting the EZ9 a lot, so she took it to qualify. Her and I were standing there in the “next group” to shoot, when she asked me “what did you bring?” I told her I had a 1911.
She asked “you want to switch?” I told her sure! The instructor got a big kick out of it. She did very well with it.

Every student that has brought a Shield EZ to my training classes has been unable to use the gun due to being unable to manipulate the grip safety. The narrow grip puts the soft tissue part of many weak hands right where the the grip safety is and it doesn't deactivate without a very unusual change in hand position on the grip. In my opinion the gun is an application failure.

Personally, I have no trouble manipulating the EZ grip safety, but on the other hand, the EZ slide is actually harder to rack than my 9mm 1911

My wife bought the EZ 9mm for her first gun because the slide was so easy to rack. After a bit of practice she upgraded to a shield Plus. She is willing to sell the EZ. It's in mint condition. $325.00

My wife shoots my 1911 best also.

    I, I mean she, needs a 1911 Tanker in 9mm. :innocent0

I purchased the S&W M&P 9 Shield EZ m2.0 because I have severe arthritis in my hands. It is indeed easy to rack the slide. I also purchased the Performance Center version (could part with the original, or keep it for parts).

Many hours of holster draw-fire-reholster has baked the grip and the external safeties into muscle memory.

I realize I need to quantify "Many hours..."; sorry 'bout that, Chief. After a break-in period, with both of my EZ, I have fired thousands of rounds, and never had a failure due to the grip safety. I put my shooting hand high & tight, and all works well.

And of course there is *no* substitute for training. For me, it is just like learning to play acoustic stringed instruments. There are no shortcuts, I must put in the work.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think about the grip safety being an issue. I honestly don't see my wife or I firing “thousands“ of rounds out of one of our handguns.

    We'll keep looking.

I think the grift safety “problem” is being blown out of proportion.

I have an EZ in 9mm. You’re more than welcome to come try it anytime you want, no cost. Just feed it.
