Sea was angry today. Fished alone cause did not dare invite a friend to bay fish as things are bad right now and I’m not very good in the bay. One thing I miss with ocean fishing is all the stuff you get to see while in the bay.
No good reports , just Lizardfish cutting my gulp and then minnows in half
Saw 2 Bald Eagles diving for baitfish that were on the surface near sunset. Hogans running a ground (shoal was marked and they were way inside the channel). And a boat with dudes doing dude things

Went to Ocean City this weekend for some shore fishing up around 131st street. The Hurricane made the beach interesting. Low tide exposed a moat and sand bar out pretty far. So you would walk thru the moat about 15 yards onto the sand bar and then cast out from there.

Caught about a 20” striped bass and a little 8” blue fish.

Used an Ugly Stick GX2 9’ and a Penn Fierce IV 4000 reel. The striper barely fought and I brought it in with little trouble.

Fished a little over 4 hours this afternoon. It was a beautiful afternoon. No keepers, but I had a blast for 3o minutes or so right at 5:00 and jigged up 20 or so short Rockfish under the bridge. 12”-17” sometimes two at a time which made it more fun to reel in.

Then I came across a sub on my way back, that was a first!

That sub is cool! Any security or patrol boats in the area?

There is a facility near the Bay Bridge whose research has a lot to do with submarine acoustics and sound emissions. Not really sure how much is "secured info". I wonder if that sub had something to do with that.

Had a charter scheduled for Oct 1st. Hurricane Ike's aftermath postponed us to October 9th. 6am, off we go. At 0623 we were cruising across the bay, at 0743 we had reached our Rockfish limit. Was an awesome day and great dinner that night.

The mouth of the Severn, northside.

And yes there were patrol boats, I got to see one up close….. I was apparently inside the 500 yard buffer.
I got close enough to yell to the guys standing by the deck rails once when a Frigate was visiting. They didn't have any patrol boats but then again, they had Phalanx guns on board. :innocent0

Went out yesterday on the lower Potomac, just north of Coles Point. Couldn’t get out until the afternoon due to winds and a small craft advisory in the morning. No luck whatsoever, not even a bite.

Threw the peddle Kayak on the truck last night after helping son 1/4 his deer.
Went Solo for my last fishing outing for the year. launched at 7:00 Mid Pax river near Brooms Island.
River is 2 miles wide here.
Worked my usual area (about 1/4 mile out) with no luck after 30 minutes.
I noticed 1 lone CC boat and a HUGE flock of diving seagulls about 3/4 mile out,, so started peddling out,, by the time I got there the sea gulls were all sitting on the water,, I did mark a few fish on the sonar, but no takers.
Hung out for 20 minutes to see if the feeding would start back up,, no luck.
Peddled back in to the area I had originally been working,, the boat that was out there had left the area.
10 minutes later I see the gulls all in a frenzy diving at the surface,, I peddle back out,, it's over by the time I got there.
I am seeing groups of decent marks on the sonar,,
8:30 Time to head in,, I decide to troll 2 rods back to the launch,
50 yards into the trip back,, I show I am going over groups of decent fish,, rod goes down, land a 22" incher.
9:15 kayak is loaded and I am headed home with dinner.

Something about being on the water, solo, on glass smooth tidal water at sunrise.

(yes, I am doing the arm stretch for the picture)

Nice! Like some rock fishing. Be careful not to trip over the deer leg by your foot.
