Meh, just seems like he was joking with you. Basically a, "good for you, I don't care unless you give me a reason to care" kind've comment. How often do you declare that you're carrying a pocket knife or your keys to random people? If you're carrying, just go about life as normal.

The guy replied “Just don’t pull it out unless I’m going to have to exercise my right”.

I think you got your pronouns confused.

Dude prolly said "Don't pull it out unless you're gonna exercise your right". He's telling you keep it in your pants unless you need to use it. Look around and you may see this posted in his store

Man I really hope we don't have to add concealed carriers to the list with vegans and crossfitters

    He's a good renter, apparently.

I'm going to go with the majority. Nothing wrong with shop employee's remarks, but something very off about yours.

Do you think every person carrying makes that comment? I assure you, they don't. When you did, it made it appear there was something off about you. He probably 'felt a certain way' about your intentions after your awkward remark.

I would suggest that if you are carrying concealed, keep it concealed.

That conversation should have never started.

This. There is no need to tell anyone, keep it to yourself.
I see no need to tell them you’re carrying just because you’re shopping for a holster.
Pretty simple to just say “do you have any IWB holsters for a Glock/Sig/Smith & Wesson” (or whatever gun it needs to fit. Everything else is irrelevant.

Whenever I go to the bank I tell them I have a gun concealed in my pants, just so they know and to put them at ease.

Based on your chronology of events you had a conversation with the vendor before advising him you were carrying. If the purpose for stating you were carrying was out of courtesy or to assure you were in compliance with store policies, it seems that you would have stated this promptly at the beginning of your conversation.

We saw this sign on a wall in a diner in IN.

The diner was good, but they didn't have the best tenderloin. We'd go back though.

I don't think it is a big deal for anyone. Was the response mildly rude? Maybe. More of a snarky throw away line I think. He probably says the same thing to ten people a day.

I don't see any problem with checking. Probably unnecessary. New carrier paranoia.

My favorite gun store has this sign posted. Sounds like you were offended the clerk didn’t share your enthusiasm about your new situation.

I understand why you did it.

I’ve been to a number of FFL(mainly in jersey) that won’t put signs up but don’t want people carrying in there. Even off duty cops. They want to be the only one with a loaded gun for practical reasons.

From a business perspective, maybe an unprofessional response. Without being there and hearing his tone or facial expressions he could of been attempting to make a bad joke. Maybe the person was serious or just messing with you to see your response. Dude could of been having a shitty day.

If I wasn’t a regular at a gun shop, it didn’t have a sign, and didn’t want to risk getting shot by an overzealous shop employee, I might say something depending how long I planned on being there. Gun shops are like mini Home Depot’s to me. I can never be in or out quickly. Always looking and looking again. Depending on the area, I’m sure there are some FFLs concerned about being robbed due to the type of inventory they sell.

I would recommend working on your approach to bringing it up. Excluding a gun shop, I wouldn’t bring it up anywhere else that youre not legally required. Leave the rights part of it out of it. Don’t justify to anyone why you are legally carrying a firearm. Something as simple as “Hey I have a HGP and I am carrying…I didn’t see any signs on the door, are you cool with it”. If the person makes a comment on keeping it on you or in the holster… smile and make a comment. I would personally follow up with.. “please tell me that hasn’t happened in here” or “sorry, sounds like a stupid question, I just know your not selling burgers in here and don’t want to cause alarm. Opens up a good dialogue and breaks the ice. Plus you might get to hear a story or two about the type of person you don’t want to be around in a gun shop.

I’m sure the MD FFLs have been seeing an increase in it and (if not) will get fed up of people “rights” comments. Like I said, don’t bother with the justification.

I believe the tactical Shepard folks have accounts on here or some other FFL. They can probably give you better guidance.

Ultimately, if it’s actually concealed, I wouldn’t worry about it. Walk in…walk out… call it a day.

What? You really think if you go to a gun store carrying concealed that some employee is going to shoot you? You can’t be serious. How are they even going to know you have it?
Definitely some BGOS going on here

^^THIS. Should have kept your mouth shut. Concealed means concealed. Can't be concealed if yer yapping about having a gun

Thanks again. It’s cool tho. I have my regular gun stores I shop at I just so happened to be in that part of town yesterday. No worries and won’t patronize their business either.

I was Trying to related to the OPs mindset. If you can’t relate and just want to make stupid comments, go spend your time in the water cooler section and keep away from threads that actually require the ability to have a discussion and use critical thinking skills.

To answer your question about a gun shop employee shooting a customer.

    Realistically… Highly Unlikely.

Is there a chance of it happening some where, sometime, in some messed up situation. 100%. Hell I could win the lottery one day.

You think employees in gun shops carry guns to look cool? They have them to use them when stupid people do stupid things and protect their inventory. Their people and people can make bad decisions.

Like I told the guy in the end . If it’s concealed walk in, walk out, be on your way.
