It looks like there is high demand for TS/SCI. Do you guys know what exactly I would have to do to get the clearance? How did you get it if you have it?
This is a long and involved process. You will need to get someone (a company or Government agency) to pick you up, or "sponsor" you first. It can take up to (or over) a year to get your paperwork in, wait for the investigation to be completed, and then adjudicated. You can't just "get" one. There has to be a need, so as I said you will need a sponsor first. Normally this costs in the neighborhood of $35-$50K from start to finish, but it just depends. With that said, once you do get one......life can be very good.
Join the Military as an Intel type and you will get a TS/SCI at the very least.

Expect your family to be freaked out by the investigative process, they will scour every dark, damp corner of your life.
well the easiest is to start with Secret, and then move up when possible. Best bet is military or fed job that will get you the clearence. Then move onto a contractor that can take you as owning you in JPAS. Secret is easy, TS isnt too hard, TS/SCI is harder.
Poly isnt required for TS, but SCI and higher yes.

You need to be sponsored as mentioned previously. After that, keep your nose clean and aside from speeding tickets you need to let your security officer know. If you get a DUI you need to let them know ASAP. Don't hide it, they will find out at your re-investigation and take it from you and you're screwed.
Good thing about a TS and higher clearance is that you can get a CCW because of it. Especially with all these foreign agents running around the DMV.
