Ty for this thread. It will help me figure out what I'm going to do. Not that I thought that this Etsy drink holder holster was the way to go...

Thanks, yeah, I'm not too worried about every little car trip. I'm just thinking about the longer rides. Wasn't certain if quick access as a permit holder was a no no still or if tucking it under the seat, leg, etc was OK. Sounds like it is.
If you're running errands around town, getting in and out of the car, just wear the dang thing. Longer trips, take it out and toss it in the console. If I am driving through, or going into the city, under my thigh it goes.

My truck has a console vault. I also have Decked storage in the bed for hunting rifles, equip, etc

If I am driving my wife's car I use a Vault Tek Lifepod with the cable in the trunk. It also works great for hotel room storage etc if needed.
+1 for Vault Tek Lifepod. Fits the G43x w/spare mag just dandy

Out in the open gives the chance of a road rager to say they saw you waving a gun around and being able to explain what it looked like. just a thought.

Unless you are in an suv or bigger, and on the right side of the other car looking down into the car, you aren't seeing anything setting on the seat or console from the same size vehicle.

I've been using a cheap handgun lock box with a cable around the seat (when traveling). Would work well against a smash and grab but not a heavy duty option.

Sounds simple enough and I am pretty sure I havent been perfect but when I spent a lot of time in Ohio I realized just how easy it is to carry in Maryland if you have a permit. Carrying with a lot of restricted and sensitive places is a pain. Its not always just a convenience store if you are spending a significant amount of time somewhere.

To each his own but I would never advise that someone knowingly violate a law because they disagree with it or find it impractical.
The mall in Indiana was a gun free zone but the shooter had a rifle? How did he get that in and the guy that shoots him was CC which I do all the time. Surprise your dead 10 times in self defense.

With more people carrying firearms there will be more people leaving their firearm in their vehicle for one reason or another.
Post up the best methods and devices you've found to safely and securely temporarily store your firearm in your vehicle.
Harbor freight has a couple of gun vaults for under $25 that come with a cable. I put mine with my spare tire storage under the rear deck floor on my SUV, and ran the cable around the welded body part that helps hold down the tire. Has worked well for years.

Both were covered in the class I took for MD W&C and glad they did. I took my utah and FL elsewhere and they told me it’s illegal to leave a firearm in vehicle.

Under the thigh? Geez, the only things under my thighs these days are my balls.......

This is NOT intended to call into question anyone’s practice. Nor begin a long drawn out debate on the issue.

As I recall it, many years ago in Florida, an FBI agent was preparing for a situation with two armed subjects. He took his revolver out of the holster and placed it on the seat for faster access. When the subject rammed his car from behind, his revolver was launched forward under the dash and ended up under the seat, completely out of his reach. It did not end well for him nor his fellow agents. Because, at that point, he was disarmed and unable to help defend anyone. Agents lost their lives in that shooting. And the investigation into that incident was the reason they canned the revolver in favor of the higher capacity 10mm pistol.

Since that training session and review of the incident reports, I won’t rely on a loose weapon in a moving vehicle.
