There are several micro and mini handguns under $600. Just depends on what you want and what you trust.
Taurus TH9c. Even with my pinky hanging off the grip, I can still get a good grip on it and you can get the full size mag with a plastic sleeve over it to give you a full grip. I like running handguns sa/da without the manual safety.

A couple of questions for when my training is complete:
I read the informative thread on the MSI website. It says contact information is required "... of current spouse, significant other, co-inhabitant, or most recent partner within the last five years" I have been divorced more than 5 years and have not had a girlfriend in that time. I believe the appropriate response is "NA" Agree?
Agree. But I'd appreciate a second opinion...

...Also, is there a way I can use my iphone to take a passport photo of myself or do I need to go to a service?
Your iPhone pic will be fine as long as you take only a head and shoulders picture against a white or cream colored background. The MSP site will allow you to crop the uploaded picture (.jpg or .jpeg format should be used) if needed.

Download a free passport photo app. I used one simply called "passport photo" and it worked great and allowed me to use my phone in selfie mode (ie: forward facing camera) to take the photo and line it up. Just make sure to take in a well lit location in front of a white wall or background.

Or, take a selfie against a white wall from the shoulders up and use the free tool from the US State Department - https://tsg.phototool.state.gov/photo - to get the correct format. Save the result locally and upload.

This is what I did, it worked great. The "free" passport photo apps I tried did not work very well and wouldn't let me do anything without paying or watching a ton of advertisements.

That's weird because the one I used was a piece of cake and had no cost associated with it. It basically put the outline on the screen as I took the photo so I could move the camera around to get my shoulders and head lined up with the outline. After that it had all sorts of ways to adjust contrast, brightness, sharpness, etc. Ready to go after that. No resizing or cropping needed at all.

I have read discussions elsewhere on these forums requiring references from employers. Is that required or is it only for G&S related to employment? If I apply for " self defense" do I need an employer reference?

Also, is there a way I can use my iphone to take a passport photo of myself or do I need to go to a service?
    1. N/A or None would be correct and true answers . But expect scepticism , and follow up questions . In the investigative mind , their first thought is that you have been a lothario with a string of battered women in your wake , and your trying to cover up .

Kind of like telling a background investigator that you've Never done any drugs , even weed .

    2. Interesting question , that we won't know for sure for probably another month .

We can think there is " no reason " in the post G&S Era . But , at least initially , it is likely LD will still be thinking in their accustomed modes . Contacting employers is at least potentially to give them opportunity to probe for " tendencies to violence or instability " .

    3. I dunno , I'm the resident Luddite . Everybody else who answered knows more about uploading pics than I do . When my ( / our) time comes to apply , I'll probably ask someone to help me .

Yes, you can take the pic yourself, no special service required, and there is no magic to 'passport photos', other than being taken of specific areas and being a certain size.

As Blacksmith101 said above, there are instructions at the MSP site, but it may be easier to edit the photo with software such as IrfanView, etc.

I took a pic standing in front of a white wall with my own phone, then uploaded it to my computer. I used IrfanView to "crop" the pic to remove everything except the head/shoulder area. I then "resized" it to provide a maximum size of 600 pixels as required by MSP.

When you go to upload the pic to the MSP site, you can make further adjustments to make the best fit to their template.

ok, so the question is still on the form. For my sensibilities, it is appropriate for me to advise people before I use them as a reference or contact, so I guess I'm going to have a conversation with my supervisor. Not an issue, BGOS just forces me to keep quiet on my relationship with firearms with those that have not expressed an interest similar to mine.

I'm doing my first renewal (current expires in October). Do I fill application out like its the first time I'm applying for a license? Providing references, business info, etc?
My understanding is you would renew as usual, but at the same time, apply to have any restrictions lifted.

Apologies because I know it has been asked and answered, but I am not finding it on a search or scanning the thread.

You select personal protection (last option) when filing and for documents to upload relating to the reason, you resist the urge to attach the Bruen decision and just upload no supporting documents, right? For the things to upload, passport photo, fingerprint document from the livescan, and the training certification, that's it?

    Thanks!

For people that are Business owners (or any other category), are you renewing under the category that you are currently under or are you using the "personal protection/other" category?
