Deer, I’m about ready to start shooting them like rats if the DNR wouldn’t fine me. Jumped a 4’ fence and ate 75% of 5 1/2 30 yard rows of bush beans. I was planning on planting navy beans but what’s the point now

I put some pex tubing arches and bird netting over some tasty veggies the deer would normally feast on. So far they have been deterred. It's frustrating I know.

There is too many. Several farmettes are not hunted and my neighbor doesn't have people killing the does enough. A mennonite I know took over a 100 acre farm to the north and I thought they would thin them. If they are, they are not doing enough. After hunting season my neighbor said he gave up after he counted over 35 deer in his field.

Still too many old school hunters out here letting every doe walk waiting on a buck and shoot 4 points. The battlefield lays waste to them and donates them many years and they still keep coming. I can't eat the amount of deer that needs killing.

That sounds like a problem that many of us suburban hunters would be happy to help solve.

Good friend of mine had a shooting clays course there and we would hunt turkey and squirrels. Also over at a school. But no no no to the deer. He used to piss me off about that. I understand your problem.

I got a 1000' of mason twine and I cut a bunch of Honeysuckle bush 4' sticks. I am going to zip tie sticks every two posts and stretch the twine over the fence like a wire 2' - 3' above the 4' fence to discourage jumping. The garden is about 270' long by 50' or more wide. The back long side is where they come from. Through my place at night and early morning. across his back hill and check his apple trees for low leaves and such.

I used to use the same tactic to funnel where deer jumped the fence to shoot them in my younger years. There weren't as mean deer as we have now back around 1990.

There's 9 aces of rye on the neighbors and the back field behind him were they come through is 40 and has emerging soy beans. You'd think they'd have enough to not jump the fence and chew my plantings up.

Got the back half taller than 6’. Doubt she’d try to mess with jumping it now. Need some good sun to plant the rest.

Replant bush beans, going to try navy beans to grow my own for baked beans. Sun flowers and English cucumbers for the neighbors

So I am doing the raised bed thing. I harvested 1/2 of a 8 x 4 bed. Looking for suggestion for what to put in to that empty space. Gonna do 2 eggplants for the wife and maybe some bush beans

Rob, have you tried electric fence. My father put in a solar one and problem solved. Even ran a low wire, 6", for groundhog.

No I have not tried electric. We got cattle on the next farm over and I am still dealing with my daughters dog that is shy about going in some areas now from getting popped by that fence. T post insulators and wire is a bit of work and I am hoping this keeps them out. A cooler of beer and the 22 Mag and I camp out for the ground hogs. The oldest dog loves doing it and retrieving them, but she doesn't want to share them with my daughters dog.

Replanted bush beans and put a 1 1/2# of navy beans in as a trial. Maybe some Pinto beans to try growing in case the socialists crash everything, as they are trying.

I use neem also. Hose can spray them off. If a lot I just sacrifice some leaves if won’t kill plant.

Check for ants also. Ants will carry them up the plants so they can get the sugar they secrete.

I can't give permission and most people that hunt are my neighbors church friends. Only a few will even kill a doe and I got no control over it. Deer don't come through my place unless its dark. I hunted his place 15 years back and they had a schedule on who could hunt when and I gave it up. When I was told you can have Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoon. I said "Thanks, but I'll hunt elsewhere."

They shot ten deer out of my blind the first year. I hunted so I was always down wind and didn't cross the trails. They started hunting the far side and crossing the trails that never get walked on all year and the deer went around his place during hunting season. and back in January.

The old guys up here still hunt the heard like its the 1970's and the heard needs preserving. Only shoot bucks and a doe once in a while. "Kill a buck and kill one deer, kill a doe and kill up to three." But we need to kill up to three a bunch of times right now!!!

I know lettuce is an early season crop, but anywhere I can get some starts that anyone knows about in Frederick/Carrol county? Wanting to do a little more succession planting so we can have some throughout the season.
