No state law against shooting on your own land, as long as the bullets do not escape your property.

With the above said, check your local ordinances and HOA (If applicable) for more information.

We shoot on our land and I am between Fairplay and Sharpsburg. It depends on your neighbors. I have a few farms the famer will not let us shoot a gun on because crazy Montgomery County people that moved up call 911 every time they hear a shot. Personally, if it were me, I'd just shoot more until they come talk to me like a grown man or woman.

It's your dirt, as long as you're being safe from not endangering them. .

Yes all it takes is at least 5 acres and like ThunderStick said nothing leaves your property. Enjoy ;)
5 acres? I thought is was no closer than 150 yards from an occupied dwelling not your own, a good backstop, and not in a no-fire jurisdiction.

thanks for all the replies guys.

Any chance these farms are near Williamsport? My in-laws used to live in a community over there where the original farm that sold the development the land would have folks out to shoot. They stopped because a number of residents in the community kept complaining.

No, but one farm I was talking about is near Crystal Grottos near Boonsboro. The Mennonite owns the farm between it and the development. He said he got tired of dealing with the police every time someone shot a deer or turkey.

Professor, you are very welcome as long as you left there to escape and not bring their mentality with you. ;) Being that you shoot, lends to believing you are not like most of them. They probably were glad you moved and took your guns with you.

The other problem they bring is the "Home rule" crap. They do not like that they can't change things fast enough out here and the county needs state approval for things. I never understand people that flee an area for its problems and then wish to change it into the place they left.

Up route 65 by Poffenberger road there is a huge milk farm with a huge manure pond. They built a huge housing development just north of it. This valley gets a lot of south winds in the summer. I bet none of those people knew when moving north of a farm you would get that "Country fresh" smell coming at you all summer. :lol2:We have a cattle fattening pen on the farm to the north of me. When that northwest wind comes I just say "Umm, smell that country fresh air!"

    True

Many HOA contracts forbid firearm discharges on one's own property. Hagerstown also has a discharge ordinance, that you cant even shoot a bb gun in your own back yard.
No different than the "metropolitan" areas of Baltimore county.

Every county has certain ordinances and laws. Some say you have to be a certain amount of distance from a public road, etc.

Google (your) county code of ordinances or county-code, type in your county.

No one should care unless he's got a whiney liberal for a neighbor. If that is the case, message me and I'll come over and we can make twice the noise to really get under their skin. ;) Break out the 7mm magnum or 300 WSM so that can hear a real gun. :D The locals originally from here expect to hear shooting.

The County Popo hates the Saturday after Thanksgiving calls from all the "New" county people that didn't know it was deer season.

He has 20 acres so can't be in the development areas. You're good, be safe and welcome to the neighborhood!

Sorry to dissapoint everyone but it is illegal to discharge a firearm on your own property.
