BPD Detective left his personally-owned firearm in the bathroom of a restaurant, realized later it wasn’t on his hip, and called back only to find out it was gone.

If you’re carrying and hitting the head, keep the gun holstered and on you. Hold your belt up with your knees or shins if you’re sitting on the toilet.

Whatever you do, don’t take your gun off!

And this is worth Jayne Miller’s time these days? Not enough real stories to chase?

I’m surprised she’s allowed to name the officer in the report, at this stage of the Department’s investigation. I’d think the union would have a big issue with this, as unions tend to have big issues with just about everything when it comes to its membership.

Yes. Or leave it in the holster, attached to the belt, and just fold the whole thing in so it's on the inside of your pants. Flip it back over as you pull them up.

This works pretty well if you have good retention.

I don't know anyone whoever lost their service weapon. I can't imagine he'll ever sleep

I've seen this brought up before and I don't get it. I carry and I poop and I have never felt the need to take the gun or holster off.

Maybe they can track it all over the city and see how many people it kills. You all realize that Eric Holder put a gun or thousand out to see the flow of them. This guy is brilliant. Does he know the guy that killed Ashley Babbitt ?

When i poop in public , i gently pull my drawers down and place the holster/gun combo on the inside of my pants, i also have taken my underwear elastic and folded it over the butt of the gun to conceal it .

Quality of the belt is paramount, even more important than the holster I’d dare to say. That was a learning I had truly not understood until in practice.

He’s wrong I’m not saying he’s right but anyone who’s ever pooped while carrying knows taking it off the belt makes life easier

The part at the bottom of the original post is telling. He is suspended with pay due to an unrelated investigation. Makes me wonder if he needed to have a good excuse for "losing" the gun before it could become evidence.

Who needs spooky ghost guns when you darn dumping coppers leave guns laying around everywhere

People make stupid mistakes. Unfortunately some result in situations like this. I have a LOT of respect for Air Marshals as a group (those I've had contact with have been highly professional and some of the best pistol shots I've seen outside of hardcore competition) but they lose guns in airport crappers every year. One of my friends texted me from an airport a couple years back that he found a gun in the can. It was a sig 229. Turns out it belonged to a Marshal. Fortunately, they guy got his sidearm back and nobody got hurt or jammed up.

I'm not saying it's ok to lose your sidearm but I have a hard time believing in malicious intent absent other evidence.

    Wasn’t his service weapon.
Since they didn’t mention an evil ghost gun, it must have a serial number, I’m sure they can find it that way….
