    Hey Guys,

The good news is that I got my permit, but the bad news is that is restricted. Today I requested an informal review to remove the restriction entirely. I was curious if anyone else has done this and whether or not they were successful. I know it depends on the specific details but I'm not getting into that on line. The application process was pretty straight forward and it took <2 months to get the card. The background investigator was very professional.

I will not be doing a formal appeal due to attorney cost and I'm not sure of victory.

How did you get it? That might help with recommendations. Working for a business? Etc?

The fact that I handle money in a volunteer position.

That's going to be a tough one, unless you can demonstrate that you might be called upon to collect, carry, or dispense that money at unexpected times, day or night, with no notice and no ability to head home to get your piece before performing those tasks.

Do you carry any of the organization's financial instruments with you 24x7? Say, checks and/or bank cards?

I'm a doctor who can prescribe narcotics from my phone 24/7. I can't get an unrestricted permit.

It's not set times, and I do get calls to show up and do financial stuff on a random basis. That is what I based my appeal on....the lack of structured times and the fact that I may not have my firearm with me when I need to go...I specifically mentioned that I would have to go home and get my firearm then TCB which is not always feasible.

Way back in the time machine i went up in front of the Office of Administrative Hearings in Hunt Valley and lost my case. Then a couple months later they lifted the restrictions for business owners . So now i have an unrestricted permit .

Back in the day Sgt Bonell, currently assigned to the MSP Licensing Division, testified under oath that the MSP has no idea when you are working and when you aren't and that YOU determine when you are at work.

And since we know that the MSP routinely monitors these threads it's been WAY too long since we have said hello and given a friendly wave to the current occupants of the Licensing Division. Hello guys

    That is an interesting concept.

    That is an interesting concept.

Plenty of people with restricted permits would do things like carry around $100 in cash with a slip of paper saying "for deposit" - or similar theatrics - so that they were in effect always on the way, eventually, to an ATM for that pending bit of business activity. Yes, it's absurd. But it provides the pretext for what you might need to be able to say if you have a LEO encounter.

With restrictions, everything is 100% subjective, And Maryland has something like three thousand law enforcement agencies. You can be sure they are all over the map in terms of what (if any) policy position they've passed along to officers that might have you in a traffic stop, or responding to a "Man With Gun" call because Karen saw your waistband carry when you were reaching for top-shelf bourbon at the liquor store.

Having a clipboard full of in-bounds paperwork and some pending bank activity in your vehicle may seem like theater, but it's not an unethical sham when it comes to why it's necessary in the first place: Maryland.

I'm not encouraging anyone to break the law or be generally naughty about anything, or risk their permit on a too-flimsy pretext. Just think about what in-your-possession items are, by their nature, the sort of things that signal being well inside your restrictions.

Hopefully I'll be able to look back at this discussion later this summer and laugh at how quaint and ridiculous it was.

Hello to the fine Troopers at the permit section  , where giving out God given rights is a business .

Honest question to the Troopers , what in the hell did you all do to be sent to Pikesville for that duty. And Doody can be spelled this way too.;)

Even a few extra cases of ammo would work. Not that I ever carried outside of doing business before it became unrestricted.

Whenever i left the house, i always am on the look-out for Work Boots . I do have a fetish on work boots and would tell my wife as we were in the driveway if i see work boots that i like i will buy them . But i always let my wife know ahead of time about work boots.

For the Dr. he might like Crocs in different colors and types .
