FYI
Heads up if you own land in certain parts of Wicomico that adjoins Chesapeake Forest land.
The state very well may have included your land in CFL maps and has been leasing it out for hunting unbeknownst to the taxpayer/owner for some time.
Some plats with small acreage 5-20 ac are almost entirely consumed. If one were to become engaged in a lawful activity such as hunting or other form of recreation, conflict with the persons involved in the lease agreement could also be the result.
The problem has been very well known to the state for some time. A forester recently admitted that contract survey crews did not adequately mark or record boundaries correctly but by having the knowledge and by doing so the problem has not prevented the CFL maps from displaying the mistake(s) properly.
It wouldn't be a stretch to understand how survey difficulty could be the result because of the ground conditions in certain areas. But, the response from forestry is not in alignment for what a landowner would expect from a state agency that not only leased your land, but is also shifting the burden to current owner for establishing the proper boundary at this time.
