UPDATE: Fans of HB 52: Maryland Recognition of Out of State Concealed Carry Permits
Good news, Maryland's Shall Carry bill HB-683 was scheduled to be voted down today in committee. When the Bill came up for vote, five mins ago, the Chairman held the bill. The only difference has been the inundation of phone calls and E-mails in support of the bill by all of you. A small victory but we are still alive!

    Dear Mr. :sad20:

The Chairman controls the agenda and the voting list regarding what bills get a vote in committee. I would suggest that you contact Chairman Vallario as well as his boss, Speaker Busch.

Thank you for taking the time to reply Delegate McComas. Isn't there a petition being currently circulated bringing certain legislation to the House Floor if it receives at least 47 signatures by delegates favoring the legislation?

Here are some factual verses in support of Self Defense if needed.

In the book of Exodus, verse 22:2, it states: “If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten, that he die, there shall be no bloodshed for him.” This verse clearly shows that if a thief breaks in, and is killed, the person who kills him is not liable for the killing.

The Jewish legal scholar Philo of Alexandria states “it is a piece of folly to be angry with the servants rather than those who are the causes of such folly.” This ancient wisdom applies today and could read, “it is a piece of folly to be angry with guns rather than those who are the cause of crime.”

In the Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 72a, it states of a home intruder: “If he come to slay thee, forestall by slaying him”

In Leviticus 19:16, it states: “neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor”

According to Rabbienu Bachya; “people must use every practical option, including self-defense, before expecting a miracle.” When confronted by a criminal in Maryland, I should be able to use a gun to defend myself, instead of praying for a miracle and ending up dead.

Lastly, our sages tell us “A broken wall calls out to a thief.”

Sent off a petition drive email to my three delegates. All of them were for this earlier in the term, so, let's see if we can put some of these delegates in uneasy situations, and put them on record.

Does this same possibility exist in the Senate as potential means of bypassing Mr. "they're nuts" Frosh.

Emails & phone calls to all of them- Here's what I sent & spoke-

It's my understanding that Chairman Vallario is planning on stalling both of these bills in committee and not allowing them to come up for a vote.

Please urge the chairman to allow a vote on these 2 bills.

Let the bills merit decide it's fate, not the opinion of one person.

Let's also remember that he can and is holding back HB820 at least for now.

Let's try to show him that the people want the pro-gun bills but not the HB820.

Instead of the 'concerned citizen' angle when writing the Delegates, has anyone written up a good one with post-McDonald innuendos? Basically spelling out the high probability that these bills will likely be unconstitutional with support from the Supreme Court in a few months...passing this bill will likely result in expensive (for citizens of MD) in challenging with a losing cause, etc...

    Would this approach have "merit"?

Just sayin'...I've got to get packed up as I'm taking my wife to Ocean City, staying at a beach front hotel tomorrow for her birthday, but may have time to draft such a letter/email up on Sunday.

•Use the Quick Email Tool on the right side of the page to contact Chairman Vallario's office.

Norton, add "www." to the link and it will work correctly.
It needs to be like this: URL="www.ksconline.net/"

Also, I have sent e-mails to the Chairman, and my Delegates about supporting the bill. I will now send them another message about the petition on HB52.

Thanks for all the hard work,

We're sitting in Mt Pleasant TX waiting out a storm front coming NE from Dallas. Plan on hitting the road for AZ Monday morning.

It's nice to be in America!

How long do they have to vote on it? Anyone have any updates on this. This is the shall issue bill correct?

    Thanks.

    Chairman Vallario,

For the first time in my life I went to the State House and watched the proceedings on the gun issues of March 11. From what little I had heard of you, I thought you might be generally against law abiding citizens owning firearms for self protection. But after watching you very judiciously manage the hearings, I know better now. I must say you asked several excellent follow up questions, we especially liked when you asked the MDSP something like all things considered, we have enough laws on the books, and the MDSP officer said, yes. There was a chuckle in the chamber because you had in one sentence gotten to the bottom of hours of hearings and exposed the truth, that these anti-gun laws were a mere ruse to peck away of what few rights law abiding citizens still have.

I applaud your fairness and even-handedness in these hearings, and thank you for common sense approach to these important discussion.

As a retired officer of the US Army, and life long gun owner, please help us law abiding citizens the ability to protect ourselves and families, please support HB52, HB842 and HB683.

    Very respectfully,
    [me]

Chairman Vallario and Members of the Judiciary Committee,

My name is [CyberFed] -- I am a graduate student at [a school] and a resident of Baltimore City. I work for a federal law enforcement agency and look forward to being able to carry a concealed firearm in my line of work, hopefully within a few years. I know other members of law enforcement, business owners, and previous victims of crime who have received MD concealed carry permits because of their jobs or circumstances as well.

For most Marylanders, however, it takes having a covered line of work, knowing the right person, or having to have one's life threatened before he/she has the chance to carry a concealed firearm. As DC v. Heller, and likely McDonald v. Chicago, affirm, the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep, and bear, arms. The fact that this right is so stringently limited and, at times, denied in Maryland is saddening, especially in light of 40 other states that issue permits unless a person is barred from owning one, or have no permit requirements at all. To be honest, this is something that has had me consider moving to a state with laws that better protect my Second Amendment rights, but Maryland is my home, and I wish to see it continue to grow and improve.

I implore you to allow the full House to vote on HB683 (Permits from Contiguous States) and HB52 (Repeal of Finding Requirement). Allow Maryland's citizens to protect themselves before being the victims of criminals who carry firearms with no such permit. Fully protect the Second Amendment as outlined by the US Supreme Court, and remove the present two-tiered system of haves and have-nots when it comes to receiving a concealed carry permit.

Thank you all very much for your time and your tireless work for the benefit of us Marylanders.

    Regards,
    [CyberFed]
    Baltimore City, MD

    Here's hoping...
