I gotta tell you. I almost wear an SKX exclusively for 3 years. I’ve worn it hiking, rock climbing, swimming , water sports, boating, shooting all kinds of firearms and heavy defensive training. These things are tanks and after all that the synthetic crystal is scratch free. The only time I take it off is if I’ll be working at night and ill put on a Gshock. Or if it’s a nice occasion and I’ll put on something a bit smaller and formal.

Just got this back after an overhaul. Was at the watchmaker for about 12 weeks. Running as good as new now. The short version of its history is it was purchased in a PX in Vietnam by someone in the service (could not find out which branch), was worn during his time there, came home with him and eventually given to his son and eventually picked up by a watch dealer in Raleigh, where I got it from. The strap is not original, but off a watch I already had. It came on a stainless steel Bulova bracelet that was not original to the watch, but had the original owner's initials on the buckle. I have the bracelet in my watch box as it doesn't fit me as I would like it to.

It's a 1968 Bulova Snorkel H, commonly known as a "Devil Diver" because of being waterproof to 666 feet and being noted as such on the dial. The "tropical" patina on the dial is all original and the lume is a nice creamy color. It does still glow a bit, but fades shortly after.

Nice piece! Gotta ask though, 12 weeks? WTH?

The SKX gets a lot of love on the "Affordable Watches / Divers and Others (AWDO)" Facebook group.

I know they are rugged, and they do have a classic look to them, but I've always felt that Seiko could do a bit better with them aesthetically. Then again, they are a great choice for anyone into doing watch mods, as is the SNZ series. I've asked for an SNZH57 for Christmas with the idea of turning it into a Blanc Pain 50 Fathoms homage.

I have a 009 and a 173. The only mod i can imagine is maybe upgrading to the NH-36 to add hacking and hand winding. Otherwise it may just be the perfect tool watch.

The stock bands they come with are garbage, but I don’t think it’s worth the added cost if seiko put a more expensive band on it.

This Bulova Lunar Pilot is now my most frequent edc watch.

I wore it every day and night, taking it off in the shower, for about a month and a half and then I began developing a nasty rash on the side of my wrist where the band was contacting me. I stopped wearing it for two weeks and it healed up. Then I wore it the past three days on a trip to Germany and I had to take it off and put it away today because me wrist is breaking out in that rash again. I've tried scrubbing the band with soap and hot water. Any other ideas or do I need to find a band that is made out of a different material?

I was looking at getting the version without the date window, but haven't seen one in person. How is the size on wrist? Most reviews make mention of how "big" it is.

is the rash occurring where the rubber or the stainless touches your wrist? that has happened to me and it isn't anything. on the band, but the band itself touching your wrist.

you may want to try a NATO style strap, because. the nylon breathes better than rubber or stainless, and it will cover the stainless case back. I would suggest a crown and buckle supreme NATO.

Scottysan, that NATO strap really looks nice on the Luminox. I have a Luminox "space watch" that I never wear and the band is part of the reason why. That might be a nice option.

I'm using a regimental stripe NATO strap now, but still have green and black Zulu straps that I swap in...esp for work
