I wonder what a professional and stationary engineer or Pilots covers? Never had any of those.

Boiler plant operators. One would think that would be under HVACR, but it was regulated long before HVACR came under state regulation.

Stationary engineers vs rail engineers and steamship engineers

I hate to derail this thread more than it already is, but I'm a stationary engineer

We have been around for a long time and are also called operating engineers. Operating boiler plants is what our license covers, but we we also take care of operating and maintaining buildings too.

I too am a first grade licensed stationary engineer along with holding a master
Hvac license. These licenses are difficult to abtain as Brian knows.
Problem is the state that requires these licene’s to operate a power plant or do commercial heating and a/c work does not provide a easy clear pathway to test or acquire these certificates. What used to take 3 years to test for a license now takes 7 years.
How many high school graduates are going to work thru a 7 year apprenticeship till they can sit to take test for license. Not many. Yet state require that license for an establishment to keep operating under state law.
Yes we have to pay a annual renewal fee to keep license but at what point will there be no more more licensed operators?
Just shows how over regulated M D has become.

Sounds like the extra burden of regulation has widen the moat for people already holding the licenses. In 10/20 years, the state will relax the regulation when there is a critical shortage.

When a very few people have monopoly power there is no incentive for them to give it up. There is incentive for them to profit from it with as little effort as possible.

If you'd like to know the very latest on HB0612, check here frequently or subscribe to bill updates on the MGA website.

MSRPA also has a nice tracker that Michael Doherty updates here. (Thanks Mike!)

Is this the bill that Senator Mike Miller said that he would oppose, and an MDS member posted the letter? Of the antigun bills that I saw presented in the House of Delegates (via live stream), this one seemed to have no support (no MDA or MDPGV members sat to give testimony on it unlike other bills). The delegate did an awful job (didn't know what an AR is), and after beclowning himself, left the room. He offered to amend the bill to not confiscate already sold HBARs and simply go with a forward ban starting October 1, 2019 - but I'm not even sure if this amendment has been added - suggesting his enthusiasm to put in time on the legislation has waned and he's focused on other issues. I know that we are still a week away from Sine Dine, but there is no Senate counterpart to this legislation.

Which is why I’m glad I took my MD licenses when I did. Only took me a little under 4 years when I went from 3rd, 2nd, and then to 1st.
