    ^very nice!!

Here are a couple fairly recent pickups of mine. Checked another pair off my WWII German military pistol collection. Two German Army marked guns, Mauser 1934 e/655 marked and a minty WaA359 marked Walther PP.

Nice mauser ! I have often thought about adding one of them to the collection. I just seem to buy any good deal that comes along so when one presents itself at a good deal ill prob pick it up.

This one popped up out of the woodwork, from an elderly gentleman who was the original owner. Unusual features include the bright nickel finish (MBA typically used a matte antiqued nickel for plated guns) and wood grips. But the real treasure is the complete set of blueprints.

    In the boonies of MoCo
Decided to rescue this poor guy:

Finish is in poor shape, but there's no pitting thank God. Grips are cracked/shot, so there's a set of repros coming mid next week. I don't think it had ever actually been cleaned with the sheer amount of burnt powder, lead, and wax I cleaned out of it today. You could see the actual metallic lead shining on the patches that I ran down the bore with a .22 jag. Ridden hard and put away wet. I bought it to be a shooter though, and the bore is in very good condition now that it's all cleaned up. It was missing the barrel lock ball, but that was it ($5 at Numrich). I have half a mind to have it re-blued. There's no value in the current finish. Someone took a wire brush to it at some point. All said though, got it for below list at $200 which I felt was fair enough. It's my first Hi-Standard and I know a much nicer example could be had at twice the price, but again, this one is for shooting, not sitting in a safe.

    Great recent pick ups everyone!

Thanks for that great k- 11 the other day. I brought home 4 more rifles yesterday . Two of them are simple fix project guns. However one of them today got the better of me when they screw would not come undone and I was putting all my might into it. The screwdriver head twisted and slipped off the screw and went through my other thumb that was holding the barrel assembly on my bench.. Luckily I was able to get it to stop bleeding long enough to throw some peroxide on it and super glue it back together. Gave it a few minutes and got back to work on the rifle. Now the action sits in the stock the way it should. And fires the way it should when the action is tight in the stock. Here is three of the 4.

It's an early one for the Duramatic line. This one is dated to 1954 which was the first year they made them.

Hi-Standard started back in the 30's though and made pistols until the 80's IIRC. So, early for the model, but not early for the history of the company.

Gotcha, thought it might be pre-war.
I'll chalk this one up as my One New Thing learned today :)

Keeping with the nickel-plated theme is a polished nickel P.38 I got this weekend.

It's a very early Walther "Zero" series, so-called due to the leading "0" in the S/N.
These were basically the pre-production test guns evaluated by the German army (this one is from 1940).

"Blinging out" captured arms was a popular practice back then w/o regard to future collectors :)
It has a Mauser byf44 barrel and block e.g. a mismatch to start with, so not as tragic as it could have been.
Amazingly it still has the original grips numbered to the pistol.

Been looking for a nice nickeled bring-back for a while "just because" and nice ones have been hard to find.
This one is out of reknowned P38 collector/ author Warren Buxton's estate which makes it a little extra interesting.
