The NRA has been an excellent lobbying organization, but I think there is another option to us that we have not exercised; The hunters of this country. Hunters should NOT be hunting and buying hunting licenses in states that have frivolous gun bans. This includes Maryland, New York, and California for starters. I for one am no longer going to buy a Maryland Hunting license; I am looking at PA, WV, and Virginia. We need to have a national podium and get the attention of all hunters nation wide.

This is a great opportunity for "red" states to take income away from these fringe left-wing bastions.

Also, we need to let people know hunting is part of conservation and necessary in any place with wild life. Without hunting, deer (for example) would eat up all the vegetation and destroy the eco-system. The average Joe knows nothing about this. This gives the voice of hunters more legitimacy, and I think a necessary element.

And finally hunters and sport shooters, even if you don't own an AR15, think of this; if we are going to ban "military style weapons" now, then today's hunting rifle is tomorrows sniper rifle. Your grandchildren will be hunting with a spear if these people get their way. Sound crazy? I'm not so sure based on what I have been hearing in recent years.

    We need to act now!

Hunters make up between 4 and 6 percent of the population.

The money the state won't get from license sales won't put a dent in their coffers.

I think we should just infiltrate uber liberal organizations, become bombthrowers, cause dissentions in the ranks and just come here to strategize and laugh.

I like that. Turnabout is fair play(not that I always play fair).

The antis would love to end hunting.

Meanwhile, most hunters probably support "common sense gun control. "

Sure they would; until the deer destroy the forests.

I think what you say about hunters used to be true but is changing. AR's are being used for hunting, ok in limited numbers, but even bolt gun owners have to take notice at the lunatic fringe talk we have been hearing lately.

Add to this that the regular fee for a hunting license is $24.50 and I know a lot of hunters are over 64, which makes the fee $5. So that lessen the impact even more.

If you don't hunt in Md and don't get younger people involved then they are not introduced to guns, have no experience / interaction with them and will have nothing but the anti's propaganda to believe. The 2A dies out from lack of participation and no positive experiences.
How many of these students marching on Washington do you think have had ANY positive interactions ( other than video games) with a firearm.
Riflery was a gym elective when I was in 8th grade (1975) taught in school with pellet guns, and was so popular kids were turned away. This was in Harford Co. Md. I can still remember that sinking feeling when my card was passed back the aisle to me.
I don't think stop hunting in Md. is a viable alternative to our rights being restricted.

Well here's a question for you guys, if hunters are the minority and irrelevant, then why did O'Malley go to a lot trouble to send hunters a letter and let them know that his "gun control" legislation would not impact them?

No - but when the deer harvest is down they will be begging for hunters to bail them out. We already see this on Montgomery county.

They just push for deer contraception programs, or for special government licensed hunters.

    This is the fun approach.

Ultimately the only thing that will work might be a Long Countermarch Through the Institutions.

I agree - all the more reason to set an example and take the youngsters to hunt in a state that supports our 2A.

Be careful about plans with good intentions. If it's successful and hardly anybody hunts in MD, it gives the MGA all the more reason to "justify" banning hunting guns as "sniper rifles". Unintended consequences. You could unwittingly become your own worst enemy.

Think how Maryland would be viewed by the rest of the country if (the extreme scenario happened) they banned private hunting and created state sponsored hunting in it's place. I think it would do more to damage their image than good. I also think it would activate and embolden resistance to anti-gun 2A legislation.

Was it omalley or the previous who robbed the coffers of the hunting licenses?
