Went to W.E. Sell in Hanover. Nice fishing and hunting shop, one of the employees says they carry nothing "tactical". I saw one AR.

Headed west to Gettysburg and visited Reddings. Nice firearms shop in the front half, lots of firearms and lots of accessories. Ordered 3 Colt 9mm magazines for my carbine (couldn't get a deal but this is the third place to say that). Talked with the guy a while, looked over a few rifles and supplies, wife liked the carry purses.

Reddings definitely a go to. Next trip, I'll head further east and try Trops, then visit the relocated Sportsman Shop, both out towards Lancaster...

Reddings is great. By some miracle I was there when they were rearranging the handgun case and they had every single one in the shop on the counter. Let me check out each one.......found out the $300 SD9VE fit my grip better than the $500+ handguns out there.

The new Trop shop is much better than the old one, especially because of the indoor range. Definitely recommend drooling over some of their inventory. Being a PA resident had its perks.

I thought the old Trop location had a more personal, less big box store feel. When the new store opened, it was pretty awesome. There were rows of shelves full of ammo and reloading supplies that went from the floor to above my head. They had stacks of bulk ammo deals right at the front door. The last couple of times we went up there, it was kinda disapointing. The ammo shelves were shrunken and reoriented and you could walk across the floor without having to dodge piles of ammo cases. Their focus definitely seemed to have shifted to AR parts and tacticool accessories. Don't get me wrong, I still always buy something. The people are still friendly when you get to talk to them, but they are very very busy selling handguns. (they do allow MDers to look at and touch them though)

If you are going to Trop, it's definitely worth checking out Kinsey's Outdoor World (http://www.kinseysoutdoors.com/) just a few minutes away. It's like a miniature Cabelas/Basspro. Typically, anything they sell that Trop also carries, Trop is cheaper, but they have a lot of oddball stuff that Trop doesn't. They have more muzzleloading stuff (even real BP) and a whole lot of archery stuff. I don't usually walk out of there empty handed either.

Any shop I walk into I'm looking for bulk 5.56/.223 and 9mm first, sales on optics, maybe a pouch or two for the range bag, so even the new Trops may still be worth the trip. A bit further east is the Sportsman Shop. They have been uneven in friendliness to Maryland citizens, but there are usually good deals, at least historically. I haven't been to their new location that now includes a range yet...

They have one hell of a used selection, a bit overwhelming actually. I wouldn't exactly call them cheap and maybe approaching nuts on some of their prices but if you want it, they probably have it.

Trop's is where I bought my new XPs Friday, a bit of a drive in heavy traffic but the counter guys are quite knowledgeable and they did give me a few bucks more on my Beretta trade than Redding's offered. Both shops VG IMO no wait, decide and carry home with you in about an hour or less!

I have had good luck with reddings hardware and in most cases, they will match their store price to their online price, a few times it has saved me a decent amount of money, I usually check the website and call ahead to confirm they have stock and will match the price since it is about an hour and 20 minute drive for me.

I wonder how close the family tie is to the Redding Auction people and do they buy for the store there if something is falling through the cracks?

no idea, I have only dealt with a girl named Emily every time I have gone, never really had an inkling to ask many questions other than to verify I can get what I want and match the price before I go. I have asked a few times about MD complaint AR's and they seem to be stocking more and more of them lately. I was up a few weeks ago and someone finally got the Barrett 50 cal they had for sale for like a year and redid the store, more inventory in the front end now and things are lot more organized too

Everybody I have ever spoke with there has always been nice. Gettysburg Trading Post OTOH...... maybe I owe them another visit but I'm reluctant.

I would recommend to give them another go, I have never had any issues and have been very satisfied with the service and pricing there
