google is your friend, I am not.
Same question could be asked of any field gun.

Typically I carry my Holland and Holland gun in to the field in a hermetically sealed case. I have my servant open the case and wipe it down when it's time to shoot a grouse, then have him wipe it and put it back.

I guess I would wonder if the blue barrel is lined with nice soft mink fur and covered from the elements.

Guns are tools, if you're using them as intended they get marred up and dirty. Its just a gun, wear that bitch out....

Most if not all.. matches have barrels and or tables for you to safely put the firearms during transitioning.

Mags.. yep.. mud.. gravel.. puddle.. hence you bring spares or cleaning supply.

I use mine as a canoe paddle. I guess it's all up to one's societal rank and standing.

The first competition I thought about it for a few minutes. Then realized that I didn't build it as a museum piece. Nothing on my rifle is fragile except the optic and it's zero. So I try not to smack it too hard, but don't really worry about getting some dirt or a few scratches on the rifle.

The funny thing is that guys that are afraid to scratch their gun pay extra for battle worn Cerakote jobs :lol2:

When I used to work refinishing furniture, it was just as that stupid shabby-chic craze was going full retard. People would bring us old beat up furniture, I'd make it look new and beautiful, then they'd want me to make it look old and beat up again.

As for guns, it's kinda like women. Not much fun to have one that's beautiful if you can't romp around and have some fun with it.

I have the perfect solution that I have employed successfully myself. BUY MORE GUNS! Seriously, get your 3-gun rifle setup and play hard. Spend money on a second (or tenth) gun with all the cosmetic stuff.

Good gear holds up to use, i've worn milspec anodizing and bluing, but whatever Mega puts on their stuff doesn't have a scratch after a season of shooting York and Thurmont, and I'm not going easy on it. Same for good tennifer or melonite, have pistols I've carried long enough to know bluing would be worn and streaky, but the tennifer cleans up and looks like new. Even still all things are relative, beating on a $2000 rifle still doesn't make me as nervous as taking a $30K car or bike to the track.

If you're worried about the finish on AR's and 'tupperware' M&P/Glocks don't ever go to a SASS match and see what we do to $3000+ worth of guns with wood stocks!

I have more money in my 3-gun AR than I do in all of my SASS gear :D But I don't deliberately ding my 87 or 60. Slamming them into tables is a way to wreck gear.

Most of the guns used were originally designed for combat. 3 gun isn't that hard on them.

Truth. Except for the shotguns, they're more police guns. But the same principle applies.
