Weekend, ~ 700 147 gr. 9mm. Tore apart reloading/office ready for an extra window (has come in), paint, whole new setup. ugh. Tough to do inside work with the weather this nice.

    WLRs are the bomb.

    Use them.

Will do. Thanks for the tip.

Pick up some of the .312 Hornady 174gr HPBT Match bullets and give them a try if you aren't satisfied with the Sierra .311's. I've done extensive testing with both and have yet to find a Mosin that doesn't like the Hornady bullets better. I use 46gr 4064, WLR primers. I mostly shoot cast, powder coated bullets though.

    Mostly. :lol2:

I picked up some of these today. Thanks for the tip.

Well, this morning while using my Lee Auto Hand Primer on some 30-30 brass I snapped the handle on the Auto Primer. No big deal, or so I thought. I have the old round style. It seems parts are no longer avaiable for this style of hand prime tool. Lee came out in 2010 with the new square redesigned model. A quick search of reviews is not good for this product as most seem to prefer the old style loader.
Has anyone tried the RCBS hand prime tool? How does it compare to the Lee? Can I use the same Lee shell holders in the RCBS Hand Prime tool?

I have both of the Lee hand prime units (round and square) and prefer the newer square one. It lines up the primers in a waiting line and makes it easier to see when the queue is getting low as opposed to the round Lee primer I have to shake it every other case to make sure a primer is always ready to go on the elevator.
One bad thing about it is that the plastic cover does not fit very snug near the priming operation so sometimes a primer turns sideways or flips over; I have to really keep an eye on the operation or else I'll seat a primer upside down (only a couple times out of many thousands).

I converted and cleaned 250 pieces of 300blk brass from twice fired 223 brass and mounted an ASR muzzle brake on my 300blk upper for when I finally get my Omega out of ATF jail in about a year or so.

Those will kill anything on the planet.

And if the Aliens do come, they'll kill them too.

    Beautiful cartridges.

I think I remember reading one of the entries on the 'Box of Truth' site regarding the effectiveness of rounds for smashing through an engine block. Where almost every other round failed, the .45-70 proved quite adequate.

This weekend I ran off about a thousand rounds of .38spl (158gr. Xtreme plated swc, CCI SPP, 3.5gr. titegroup). I have said this before, but I am really liking the production efficiency of the dillon 550 I got last year.

I've broken several of those Lee priming tools. The linkage on the inside that takes all the force is a very weak alloy and it deforms, causing the ram to lose some of its travel and won't seat primers all the way. I keep buying used ones for cheap on eBay because I don't like the new style.

It has the same weakness in that linkage too. Lee too often uses the cheapest of alloy on load bearing parts, it's frustrating. but you get what you pay for.

Loaded up some rounds of 7.62x54r for my Mosin today using 4350, 180 gr Sierra SPT, and WLR. My Hornady bullets should be here in a couple days.

Pre-prepped 200 Creedmoor cased. Getting ready for Ed's long range class. Still need to buy dies, pills and powder but at least I feel like I'm moving in the right direction.

I have both and I don't like the new one at all. I have the same issues with the dust cover and that is perturbing. I like the old round ones so much that I found a used one (barely used) on fleabay and snatched it up, a couple of new plastic covers, since mine were so old they were yellowing and I found someone that had the old connecting link available so I snatched that up too. I now have 2 setups and spare, one is setup for lp's and one for sp's. If I break another connecting link on one, I'm gonna start making my own replacements... :lol2:

A little follow-up to the 150 grain hard cast bullets for the Marlin/Glenfield .30-30.

I was concerned about Lyman #2 being too soft for the shallow rifling in the Micro-Groove barrel.

The bullets from that Lee mould (C309-150-F) produced groups half the size of three other commercial soft point brands.

The lead mix is 3.0% Tin, 6.9% Antimony, and 90.1% Lead. With a Hornady copper gas check. Sized to .309 and lubed with Lee liquid ALOX.

Now I know it all works. Thanks to FreeState and .308 Thursdays.

I use the RCBS hand prime tool and use Lee shell holders for .380 & 9mm and RCBS shell holder for .38/.357. The only reason I use both brands is that's what came with the die sets. Never a problem with either brand of shell holder in my RCBS hand prime tool.
