I was delayed by NICS for a day earlier this year from a reputable LGS, it's a NICS issue, not Dicks. I was told it could take up to 3 days, got a call the next morning to come back and pick it up.
This is what Im really hoping. My buddy wants to shoot Delmarva monday morning and im off work. I told him theres no way Im going if I dont have my new shotgun in hand.

I worked at a lgs. We had a guy who would be delayed every time he bought a long gun. He would just hang out since we would get the call back to proceed within a half hour. NICS is far from perfect and you can be delayed for the most minor things.

When we submitted the electronic form I walked around for a few minutes and came back and he said 'you got delayed' so I stood there for a few more minutes quietly and he's like 'no I mean you got delayed for a few days' im like WTF dude this is my first non-pistol purchase i thought I was coming home today with this gun. Im already shopping for gun cases on amazon dude.

It happens, dealers hate it. I can't count the sales we've lost because customers don't want to wait, don't understand the delay, are just passing through and can't come back.

It's no good for either side of the counter.

Thank God I don't have to deal with those horse nuggets anymore....

I went and bought a long gun a few weeks ago, and the check for the guy before me (a cop) was a half hour. Mine was over in under a minute. The shop employees were kinda taken aback by how quick it was. I have a security clearance (gov't contractor), so I thought that was what it was.

This is what I dont understand I wish they would clarify why they delay you. Even a system code or something like 'delay-01-discrepant name. Or 'delay-02-federal clearance'..
I have a clearance and I too am a government contractor with the credentials and everything. I have a unique name and My record is nearly spotless. Just want to know what the hell is going on.

I have purchased 12 guns since 2013 ( I know, not much, and I'd like to keep it that way). I have been delayed 10 times. No idea why except maybe cause I'm fricken Asian maybe?
But the standard rule is if NICS doesn't call back within 3 days with a Denied then by default the dealer can release it to you on the third day.
Of my 10 delays, a few called back within a couple hours to Approve. The rest called back in a day or two.

Final thought: If the Gov is watching over Gov employees, just imagine what they doing with us Civs.

What "federal agents" as you mentioned in your initial post are contractors?

Why does anyone shop at a store named "Dicks" and expect anything else?

Did you give these Dicks your SSN?

The issue is with you and NICS. Not Dicks. When you have a clearance they have to find someone there that can look at your clearance info and such to verify you aren't prohibited. If that person is on another call, in the bathroom etc you get a delay. Simple.

Nothing to do with you Mopar but it seems strange that the fact "a person is prohibited" could be hidden ... or a special clearance needed to see this, what if the High Clearance person at NICS is in the bathroom for 3 days, does the person automatically get the firearm released? Just a thought.

Good luck RobbieD, that is a sweet looking shooter.

Not an easy shotgun to find. It initially was selling for around $450, but demand seems to be pushing the price up.

    $530 ...

$480 (but these guys can be very slow to ship in my experience, so I wonder if they actually have it in stock) ...

I have two friends who get delayed every time. One is full time MD National Guard with a clearance, the other is former Marine, who still has active clearance (he does contract work with USMC) , HQL, MD Private Detective license, MD wear and carry, and at two non resident CCW's from other states I know of.
I have a cousin who was a Army MP for 8 years who got delayed when she went to get a rifle for deer hunting last month.
Who knows why with these three. None have common names, none have any criminal record.

I have nothing against Dick's Sporting Goods, but it is good to support small businesses. Forum supporters would be a good start, and I'm sure some of them can order what you want.
