Hey guys and gals, happy to have finally joined. I'm a long time gun owner, though I haven't bought any handguns since that HQL nonsense because I'm not a criminal and thus I refuse to be fingerprinted as though I were one.

Still, I do have a few handguns, though the bulk of what I've got is long guns. I joined this forum to get to know some other shooters, and hopefully find someone with property that legally allows firearm use.

I'm in Montgomery County in Wheaton, so my shooting options are few, and the options I have are, let's face it, kinda ********. On Target pistol range, you have ignorant nobodies breathing down your neck, same deal with the nearest NRA range, at least in my experience. Machine Gun Nest out in Frederick is full of cool people, but they have a couple ******** rules that I'm too much of a stingy guy to deal with, like if you accidentally shoot the wrong thing, that's $100 out of your pocket. Not the best place to take a gun you've never fired before, obviously, which my wallet learned quickly.

The closest place for me to shoot openly and where I can take my time and learn without some ******* breathing down my neck is Green Ridge State Forest which is just too damn far for regular shooting. I'd like to find a place I could go somewhat regularly so I can actually train rather than going once or twice a year with a group just to plink downrange.

Anyhow, I reckon I'm a pretty friendly guy. Feel free to say hi or give suggestions. Looking forward to getting to know you all. Thanks for having me.

Right there with you! Funny story actually, involving Atlantic Guns in Rockville. I bought a Rossi Ranch Hand before the HQL became law from them. My weapon was defective, as it couldn't successfully cycle .357 rounds. I took it back to Atlantic, but by the time Rossi got around to deciding something and fixing it, HQL had become law. I could not get my own gun back because I didn't have an HQL license. What kind of ******** is that?

Atlantic agreed it was complete nonsense, and tried to fight it for me, but were unsuccessful. Instead they gave me a full refund, essentially buying my gun from me for the same price I bought it from them. Those guys over there are upstanding, honest people.

I don't doubt you, so maybe they didn't get the memo. Or maybe the issue was they sent a whole new gun instead; it's been three years and my memory is failing me. Either way I couldn't have my gun because of this ******** law.

    Welcome!

Given that you're in lower MoCo, it's likely that your best option for a close-in range is going to be joining the IWLA Rockville Chapter or the IWLA Damascus Chapter. The Rockville Chapter is on the corner of Waring Station Road and Clopper Road in the Germantown area and has 8 lanes for pistol and 3 for rifle. The Damascus chapter is off of Mullinix Mill Rd. between Etchison and Damascus and offers more lanes for both pistol and rifle than you can shake a stick at. They also offer skeet, trap, and 5-stand as well as other activities. Both are places where you can enjoy yourself much more than the typical public site-in days at other ranges in the area. Alternatively, private days at various club ranges (creesap for example) tend to allow members far more leeway in how they conduct their shooting than they do the general public. Other private-only options are places like Monocacy Pistol Club in Frederick which is right next to Creesap.
