    Hello Ricky:

Thank you for contacting MD DNR with your question about the Myrtle Grove WMA Shooting Range.

Our DNR Engineering and Construction Staff are in touch with the contractor doing the work and they are monitoring the progress of the range repairs. Our goal is still to re-open the Myrtle Grove WMA Shooting Range on August 27, 2016.

    Thank you,
    Dave Heilmeier

I moved to Maryland earlier this year, went through all the hoops to get my HQL, got myself my first handgun last week -- a nice shiny new Glock 19 -- and then I discovered Myrtle Grove is closed temporarily :(

I guess if MG doesn't reopen on schedule, I'm going to have to take a road trip somewhere. I gotta test this thing out!
You could always go to MSAR... *snicker*

There are better options right here in Charles county for an indoor range. Freds as St. Charles Sportsmans Club for example. SCSC has memberships available. While both are indoor only it beats not getting the needed trigger therapy.

It needs to be lot longer too
But that isn't going to happen either.

The DNR range exists for local hunters to get proficient with their firearms. SoMD counties are shotgun and muzzle loader only, for DNRs purposes 100 yards are perfectly sufficient.

If that was the case then why did they put the dirt burns up at 30 yards for handguns?

It may have started out as a sight in range but over the years it had evolved in to a recreational range out of necessity. This is the only public shooting range in southern md.

St Charles sports club did buy some land in welcome with the intention of building a new outdoor range. However that isn't going to happen due to A.H. neighbors complaining about everything. Last I heard they are going to sell it and try find somewhere else.

That would be news to the members. I won't discuss club business here though. Please don't spread rumors that you don't have real knowledge about.

No problem getting a membership if you are willing to have a background check done.

The club owns just over 300 acres in Welcome, Maryland. It is currently being used for hunting, hiking and fishing. There are several ponds on the property.

Bad news guys, just got back from the range. There is a NEW sign posted--"All ranges will be closed until 1:00 pm September 7..." The good news is that there were about 10 guys down in the pit turnin' and burnin' so the might actually make this new date.

I had a feeling this would get delayed :sad20:

The website now says Sept. 9 at 1pm:

"Due to construction delays the Myrtle Grove WMA Shooting Range will remain closed until September 9, 2016. The Range will re-open at 1:00PM September 9th after a previously scheduled Shooting Qualification. The Range will be closed for necessary repairs to the baffle structures, berms, and backstop. Use of the Myrtle Grove Shooting Range will not be permitted during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience during this Range closure. "

I remember this being a different property. Somewhere around Marbury.

one of my customers he seamed to be a senior member of the club told me you had to be sponsored by a current member was the only way to get in. I worked with a guy that was is pretty well invested into the club Andrew L. I called their and left a message for him he either didn't get it or wasn't interested so I just dropped it .
