They are Hogue rubber grips and I like them a lot. The factory grip had a thumbrest and that may be fine for shooting from a bench. But, in the field the thumbrest really got in the way for me. I have also replaced the worn grip screws since I took this picture with stainless hex heads.

Thanks for the info. I have a Mk III hunter, I didn't get the competition mainly cause the thumb rest wasn't for me. I do like the looks of the stock wood grips, but the Hogue ones look very comfortable.

Here is my new rimfire A Glenfield Model 60 with a Nikon Scope on her. Not much to look at like some of these guns on here but I don't discriminate even less attractive guns need love.

Went to go get a GSG5SD and saw this come out of the box and had to have it. This thing is built like a brick shit house. I hope she shoots as good as she feels and looks. Well, at least I liked the way it looked, whatya think?

It was bound to happen sooner or later. There are probably a half dozen aftermarket stocks out there that accept Ruger internals and accept AR furniture. I think that it is interesting that Ruger selected the Nordic for their 'corporate' rimfire AR.

Back when the Nordic was first introduced, I decided to build one... but it was going to be special. There were a lot of good looking Nordics showing up on RFC, but I wanted something better. I wanted my Nordic to shoot with, or better than, my SS/A.

I assembled some of the components - the Nordic stock, the AR furniture, and bought a basic Ruger 10/22 carbine for its internals. Next, I contacted one of the better known builders on RFC and we discussed what I wanted. This builder had not dabbled in tacti-cool or EBR's before, but he liked the challange and agreed to the build. I shipped everything to him and waited patiently.

Over the series of months that I waited, this builder was developing and introducing high end specialty pieces for the 10-22 and my build was used in a portion of those development efforts. Many of the prototype parts went on my rifle, but there was one major flaw in the build - the Nordic stock.

When Nordic developed the stock, it was designed so that an owner could simply drop in a 10/22 action, bolt it up, and go blasting. Due to the shape of the 'AR like' housing, and the 10/22 receiver, nylon locating screws were used to position the receiver and barrel assembly in the Nordic housing.

Anyone who knows anything about building a 10/22 based tack driver knows that in order to get small consistent groups, the receiver must be solidly bedded in the stock. Any movement at all affects POI, and therefore accuracy.

One thing that we tried on my build was to replace the nylon locators with brass ones to get a more solid lockup. No dice.
We proved the action was up to standard by placing it in several other stocks, and it shot bug holes. Remove the action and put it in the Nordic and the groups opened dramatically.

    Conclusion?

While the concept was sound, the desired result was not there. My goal in my build was to build the ultimate Nordic. A Nordic that would shoot on par with the best of the 'ultimates' seen on RFC.

Step one, having a great looking rimfire EBR was accomplished as seen in this mock-up photo early on in the build process.

Now why am I boring all of you with this tale?

I agree with all of you that the SR22 is a great looking piece and 3rdRcn should be proud to own it. The basic 10/22 receiver and all of its parts have a loyal following and a HUGE aftermarket that will allow it's potential to soar.

What I would love to do is to compare the Ruger roll-marked stock with a standard Nordic stock and see if Ruger had the supplier modify the design at all to squeeze more accuracy from it. In other words... to locate the action in a more solid manner than in the stock like I have with the Nordic roll marks. If they did, that would be a major accomplishment, and a feather in Rugers cap.

The SR22 is a fine looking weapon, and I'd love to have one, but my SS/A has spoiled me because I want my rifles to be insanely accurate, in addition to good looking.

3rdRcn, if you have the opportunity to give us a range report, and maybe some tear-down photos, I'd love to see how Ruger improved the Nordic casting. ;)

As a postscript to this missive... After almost a year of development and testing, I pulled the plug on my Nordic build and the parts are being sold.
In its place, my builder and I are involved in another project that has the promise of being the shooter that I want. When it is completed, I'll show it here... but as a preview, go to the Zimmerman Arms web site and take a peek.

I built this for my son, but my 12 year old daughter shoots this one a lot. A cost effective way of getting my kids into the shooting sport.
Ruger10/22 carbine, Tapco stock, UTG rail , Walmart 3x9 30/30 scope, Low profile weaver rings, knights rail covers. compensator(courtesy of FPS..Thanks Bro) Shoots minute of tin can at 50 yards. I'll have to get high cap mags and some more aguila high velocity rounds.

I heard a rumor the Ruger SR22 was not being distributed within Maryland.

3rdRcn, where did you get yours? Just curious if anyone in MD has them available yet?

I got mine at Gun Connection, he has only had a couple of them and this one had just arrived and was being checked in when I saw it. This thing seems to be built very well and I can't wait till Monday so I can try and squeeze in some range time with it.

A buddy of mine that I work with was waiting for one to come in so he could buy it, so I guess he is on a wait list.

A couple of my favorite squirrel busters. CZ 452 American and 452 Lux in .22 LR. While I am very fond of my Henry Lever actions, if you don't own a CZ .22 you really don't know what you are missing. :mdpatriot
