Went to file my form 1 and the ATF site is down on Wednesdays for "scheduled maintenance". Could you image a private company offering service as piss poor as the ATF?

The IRS is the same way. You can apply for an EIN online, but there are hour restrictions to apply and I don't think the site is available on the weekend. I don't even want to get started about the IRS. That organization is just frustrating the heck out of me lately. Then again, the ATF has $200 of mine that needs to be refunded to me. However, they have only had it for 6 months. Life could be worse.

And there is ZERO consistency. I got my $200 refund in less than a month...

It is the same way with the IRS. It really does depend who you talk to at these agencies. Some people know what they are talking about. Others are a complete disaster. I am almost at the point of giving up on the $200, opportunity cost and all that being taken into account. I might have to "delegate" that task to my wife, and that is not going to go well. Guess I will just take a wait and see approach and then debate this matter again in November.

I am very careful about my Form 1 submissions nowadays. lol Knock on wood, and all that. Last thing I need is for all the ones in the pipeline to come back disapproved after July 12th.

    I just submitted a Form 1 for a .30 can. :party29:

I'll probably get that approval back before the stamp for the SBS I applied for back in march

So I have a question. As long as you know what the serial will be do you have to have the tube engraved before you file?

Since I would be selecting the serial can I just file now and build as I have the money?

You do not have to build or engrave anything prior to being approved, and there is no time limit of when it has to be built by.

Most people order parts and pieces and have the tube engraved prior to the stamp being approved, but you can't start the build process until you have an approved stamp.

Completely understood everything just wanted to make sure about the engraving. Given the short lead time with 41f I wanted to make sure. Ill file my form but with the holiday was concerned about arrival time of the tube.

Would I be able to pin and weld one of these assemblies to a 9mm bbl and still be able to disassemble for cleaning? I was thinking I'd still be able to take the end cap off and dump the baffles out. Does it work like that? I'm a complete noob to suppressors. Thanks very much for any information!

You could buy it would be pretty difficult to do.

It would be better to pin and weld an extended break on.

If you buy the steel version of the endcap and tube its pretty easy to weld/pin or silver braze them on the barrel. As you figured the endcap still comes off for cleaning. It can be somewhat more difficult to pull the parts out (vs push) due to buildup.

Hmm. Which would be the better option? I'm guessing the extended break because I could push the baffles out of the tube at that point.

Only you can make that decision. Brake will be slightly heavier and probably not quite as quiet (brake faces aren't angled like a better baffle and the additional gaps between the brake and baffles.) IME if shooting jacketed or plated bullets don't need to clean that often.

Personally I would not pin and weld a can on. After shooting you are going to have a really hard time trying to service the can.

I would go with a brake, monocore, or otb brake.

Okay so I was going to try and see what's what here but I'm getting confused.

What would work on a 308 bolt. If at all possible I'd like to make it work on my 5.56 ar too.

Would one of these suppressors still quiet the rifles down a lot if I'm using factory ammo? I'd like to not have to shoot subsonic ammo to make it quiet.

Has anyone had any luck using one of these on a 308 bolt?

    SDTA makes these extended brakes?

If the brake is welded to say a scorpion or a mp5 pistol clone these could be used to extend barrel length to 16".
Adding a slightly longer D cell stainless pipe around it would make it similar to a extra long blast chamber/monocore. Then just add a few baffles after the brake, A solvent tube and an endcap. Then add a stock. = suppressed 9mm rifle? ;)

I am going to make a can out of a WIX 4003 fuel filter and drill it for .338. It is one of the largest tubes you can find. There are people out there making machined baffles for this tube now, as well as people selling the freeze plugs in the correct diameter for this tube so you can make your own baffles. Google "Wix 4003 suppressor" and see what you get. Now, whether it will work on something like .338 Lapua, I don't know, but I am going to give it a shot (pun intended). At least .300 Win Mag and .338 Win Mag.
