Whatever it takes I guess at this point. I was supposed to meet up with him at the last HPRB meeting, both of us ended up getting caught up in mini-emergencies.:sad20:

Probably hit Street up on myspace, have her message LR and see if I can get a response that way.

I’ve really been enjoying this thread. It’s nice to get some background into who’s who (or who was who) around here. There is one thing I’ve been struggling to wrap my head around: How are the repeat offenders of rule #1 getting caught? Are they just that careless, or do the mods have some sort of Jedi security software?

Look, I’m no hacker. Heck, I haven’t even figured out how to make an avatar! But I have seen a few episodes of Catfish and understand that your online identity is only made up of what you put in it. It seems to me that, with a complete change of credentials and subtle change in posting habits, one could slip into an innocuous alias and start over with a new introduction. I mean, if “Unsalted Pretzels” was banned, who would ever suspect that she’d come back as “Bender Is Great?” (Ok, if there are actual members here with those names, my apologies…I wasn’t trying to throw anyone under the bus!)

I’m wondering if the asshats are just victims of their own asshattery? Maybe they just can’t help themselves and try to pick up the fight (or whatever got them banned) exactly where they left off. Perhaps they leave some clues for braggin’ rights that they got one over on the mods? Maybe they can’t strike a balance between being right and being happy (heaven help them if they’re married!). Or…it could be Jedi security software.

Now, I’m certainly not going to try it myself! First off, I play by the rules. Secondly…well, you know…Jedi security software….

When you log in there are numbers that get associated with your account. Your IP address and your MAC (media access controller) number. When you get banned your IP and your MAC number which an individual identification number for specific device. Routers NIC's and modems all have this number. In addition to your IP address pretty much all will ID you down to who you are. So once an IP address gets a ban even if you go to a friend's house to sign up for an account you will still never be able to sign on to any devices that may be associated to your screen name.so new cell phone cable modem new router and a new computer is what it would take to get past that first layer of defense. 2nd people write in a style that is unique to them. Use of words phrases and simple grammar mistakes are hard to miss. It is not hard to root out alternative accounts once you know what to look for. Like who would not suspect a person with the Screen name of Kemosobi not suppect that it would not be the lone ranger. Humans are creatures of habit and sooner or later people slip up and give themselves away.
