I decided on my next purchase I wanted something modern instead of my usual C&R. Now dont get me wrong but when I was first shown the 1911 model back in 05, I really wasnt impressed until I first started learning more about firearms in 07. Now that I know as much as I do, I settled on my first 1911, a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-spec. I go pick her up on the 11th. Any and all info you guys can give me for this make and model are most appreciated.

    Now for the porn! :D

    Excellent choice.

For those who hold that the 1911 has serious design defects, there is the fact that the US military issued it for some 70 years and some of the most elite units still insist on carrying it. A century after its birth it's being made in uncountable numbers and varieties, untold accessories are made for it, hundreds of highly-regarded pistolsmiths work on nothing else, and it's been copied world-wide. Not bad for a poorly-designed, unreliable, can't-hit-with-it POS, eh?

To add....this months "Gun and Ammo" features the 1911....goes into the history, different makes and models. Great article.

    Excellent choice.

    Congratulations:party29:
I'll also be picking up my first 1911, a S&W model 108285, on the 11th-ish. I have a feeling that the holiday may screw up the date and I may have to wait until the 14th.

Excellent choice and it looks great!:D I have been shooting them since the 60's and still do in IDPA today. I love the trigger pull and simplicity of the design. No plastic for me. I do own a "few" and still have my first one, a Colt Commander in stainless satin finish. Paid $134 for it at a Western Auto store!
Have fun and I know you will. :party29:

I am sorry to break this you but the 1911 does have one very serious defect.
It is just too much fun to shoot, and is addictive. I mean really if you had unlimited ammo how long would you stay at the range???
    ;)

Thank you all for the comments and info given. Yes, I know the addiction, I happen to have a chronic addiction with shooting anything that goes BANG! And Im sure everyone else does. Also, Does anyone know if they make a threaded barrel for this make and model?? Later down the road I wanna get the can and barrel.

"some people" will get bitten with the short/ narrow tang;YMMV .
"some people" have strong preferences on way or other in regards flat/ arched housings, and short/ long triggers. Or else be equally adaptable. YMMV . Try other people's in every combination. Once upon a decade I had been only moderatly impressed with my Colt Commercial 1911A1 , until shooting Father in Law's set up a particular connfiguration, and it was as if a light bulb went off over my head.

I like Polecat have been shooting mine since the 60's when I paid 15$ for it from an old guy who couldn't remember how to reassemble it!...bought it to me in a shoe box..LOL..What a hoot of a memory, that was the first of many since then. You will love em!Good Luck maybe fate,I guess if he could'nt remember how to put it back together it was better that he sold it to me before he hurt someone!

I completely missed this the first time I read it, I was so excited to see someone else loving on an M1911. I like the way you think, calling a century-old design "modern". To me, nitro propellants, i.e., "smokeless powders", are modern. :D
