Does the Vortex Viper HS have a zero stop? I ran into that on my Razor HD for the first time and couldn't figure out why I couldn't lower the crosshairs enough to hit the target. Actually took a call to Vortex where they did their best not to laugh at me.

Exactly what I was going to ask.

I'll put money on it, he bought the V-Plex 6-24x50 Viper HS (which has no zero-stop feature).

Vortex even said to me that it was a known issue that on some rifles they'd run out of elevation adjustment - I talked to Chris, Travis, and Sheila at Vortex trying to get it figured out.

Gave them measurements on rings and bases used, best I could ever get was roughly 4.5 to 5 inches high at 100 with no more vertical adjustment - it was bottomed out.

There's a reason Vortex is discontinuing that model, partly because people have had issues with them not being able to zero them on their rifles.

But, what do I know - I'm just a clusterfvck. Maybe you can go out and buy one so you can experience that issue firsthand.

ETA: Pwoolford and Kevp, that wasn't directed at you. Pinecone, different story.

Duracoated my HSP stock in flat dark earth Sunday using their Shake and Spray kit. Pretty happy with it. A little darker than Magpul's tho.

This is exactly what i have , But this gets worse . I had the local gunsmith bed my rail to the receiver ... Now i'm 14.3" high at 100 yds. and out of adjustment . Gonna pull this scope off and put on one of my Nikons . If i can zero one of them , I'll be making a call to Vortex . Had no idea they was discontinuing this line of scopes . Was gonna get the HS LR but didn't like the exposed turrets .

Dave, I wasn't trying to pull a fast one on anyone by selling that scope off. Vortex had examined it and said it was in perfect working order. They recommended adjustable rings to me.

If you feel I did you wrong, I'm more than happy to refund you what you paid me. :)

Brad i dont think that was the intention, I do kinda wish I knew of this or it was mentioned when i asked about the scope. You said it functions 100% which by all cases is correct as you say Vortex said that's normal. Knowing the info before hand may however have swayed me to another scope.

I would really like to see if i can get it to work for me as i like the scope and Vplex. So Basically I need the lowest of Low mount rings combo Correct?

I am heading back out the door again now, I dont reply much when im out and about cause trying to use the forum on my phone doesnt work well and just annoys the shit out of me.

In hindsight, you are completely correct and that should've been disclosed to you, for that I do genuinely apologize.

I'd start with the lowest base/ring combo you can fit on your rifle with that scope.

Vortex had mentioned to me it seemed more common for that model to run out of elevation adjustment on Savages, so if you're putting it on a 700, you may not even encounter that issue.

If you do run into issues with it, my offer stands. I'd rather come out of pocket than to leave a fellow shooter feeling like they got taken for a ride. :)

I have one of these scopes on a 20 moa Warne steel base and with low rings I had no issues with zeroing it. The key I think is getting a low mount. The Warne base isn't cheap but it's well worth the $.

That scope has a spec of only 42 MOA of elevation adjustment.

So a 20 MOA cant rail will put it VERY close to being at the extreme limit when zeroed.

With that little elevation adjustment, it is really designed for flat rails.

Thanks Russ, I know the EGW Base is high compared to other 20 MOA bases. I have a Weaver here and if SWFA ever ships out my scope and mount i have a TPS ? steel Base supposed to come next month. They told me they backordered my scope 4 days After i ordered. Kinda pissed me off that it allowed me to order then a few days later they email me saying ooops, you wont get that for 2 months.

Anyone happen to have any experience with the ruger American in 22-250? I have one in 30-06 and its a great rifle. Want to get a 22-250 but haven't heard any real world accuracy reports.

Update on the Vortex, Mounted it on the AR I wanted it on with the 30mm Mount i had here, I was able to sight it in on the stop sign by looking through bore and scope but then found No more adjustment, so if i had to make a change at range it wouldn't work. Have some Burris low rings here.. they are too low for this scope. Need to pick up some Med or high rings to try that. With the mount that i used i had about 3/4 inch over the hand guard so i figured it wasn't gonna work, once i get some rings ill give it another shot.
