Happened about 4 miles from the homestead.

I was at a scout meeting less than .5 miles away and heard the sirens and people buzzing about it.

Sucks.

We've had 2 or 3 daylight breakins within a short distance of home in the last few months.

I have a sweet old widow as nearest neighbor. I guess she has noticed my backyard plinking and knows about my addiction.

She has called me several times a day since the breakins and told me she hopes they break in to my house while I'm home. I thought it was funny...knew what she meant.

I am not justifying the shooting and I hope they catch the shooters, but it should be noted the victim was charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault and a handgun violation (while on probation) in the past. It may not have been a completely random robbery.

maybe, maybe not.........................birds of a feather and all that, but with a wife and kids in the house?


Still, this incident warrants as a reminder of being aware of "unannounced visitors" knocking on the front door.

We have had some trouble in the neighborhood over the last year or two as well. No murders, but several home invasions, burglary while the residents were home or came home, smash and grabs, theft out of cars in the driveways, sheds being broken into, etc. I started carrying around the house. My wife use to say I was over reacting. She still looks at me a little funny, but she doesn't complain anymore. It's not a particularly bad neighborhood, just occasional problems, but it took 25 minutes for the PoPo to show up when my neighbor interrupted a burglary when she came home a little early a few months ago. They did catch one guy hiding in an attic when another neighbor saw him slip through a broken window one Sunday morning while she was at church. They said the K-9 just stared up at the attic hatch and salivated until he came down. No neighborhood is immune from this crap anymore.

If there is any time a person can draw out of them a violent, family preservation demon to fight back monsters who want to do bad things, a home invasion is the time to bear and unleash them.

I know a family of pill poppers and drug addicts that live in Federalsburg and all have past burglary and assault charges. Every time I hear about stuff like this in Federalsburg, Denton, Seaford, I always wonder if they were involved.
