This happened a couple of years ago, so I don't know if it is still the same or not. I was in Dick's in Waldorf to buy some BBs for my nephew. I walked around for a while and couldn't find any. There were plenty of boxes of shotgun shells, rifle ammo, pistol ammo out on the shelves. When I got a chance, I asked the clerk if they had any BBs and he said "sure" and pulled some out from under the counter. I asked if BBs were so dangerous that they had to be kept behind the counter and he said it was company policy.

I always get a kick out of the ones out of the upper class hoods looking at ar's and their first question is whether it's automatic. Them loose all interest when told no.

I went into Wally to buy some 9mm one time. They asked me "is this for a pistol?". I told them, "No, it's for a Class III Assault Rifle". I wasn't lying. Transaction proceeded without a hitch.

They don't even know why they're asking, and most don't care. They just do as they're told.

I bought some 9mm at Cabelas and the guy asked me a similar question at the checkout.

In my hometown we had a shop that was kind of an all-around sporting goods store. Not only did they have ammo and some guns, but they also had archery stuff. More importantly for me at the time, it was the local BMX bike shop. (This was in the early 80s)

One day when I was in there checking out the new bike stuff, (I must have been about 13-14 at the time) this guy comes rolling in - Rick "Jones." (Last name changed to protect the moronic.) He was also known locally as "******** Rick" because there just wasn't much that came out of his mouth that wasn't loaded full of it.

Rick comes in looking for 12 gauge shotgun shells for pheasant, but, "I need some #4 shot - yeah, I like to let 'em get out there about a quarter mile before I take 'em out!"

I may have been young, but I wasn't stupid. I said, "Rick, a quarter mile is 440 yards - even a full choke 12 gauge is only good to about 60 yards."

    He would not be dissuaded.

"Nah man, I like to let 'em get out to about a quarter mile before I take 'em out!" :sad20:

    You can't fix stupid.

Yeah, but I'm 57. I'm sure it's something they just have to ask everyone.

They ask because their training manual and their manager requires it, not because they think you are 19. I get carded for beer even though I could be the clerks dad in most cases.

Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away I worked a second job in the sporting goods department of the now defunct Montgomery Wards. Among other things we carried rifles, shotguns, and handguns. The number of idiots who came my way were legion, but one or two stand out 40 years later. This was the era of Dirty Harry so numerous people came in to buy a .44 magnum for their apartment with nothing but drywall between their place and the baby crib next door. I was able to talk most of them out of it, but not all. One Saturday evening a very agitated young woman came in and wanted something cash and carry that "would blow a hole about this big in someone." I was informed by the department manager that I could not refuse to sell a 12 gauge shotgun to her, but I did and he took over the transaction. We learned the next day that she was a "working girl" and within an hour of buying it she used it to end a business relationship with her "manager." The one that stands out the most in my mind was the man who looked at several shotguns and I had to remind him several times not to point it at anything or anyone. Despite the warnings he shouldered one, swung it in an arc, and came to rest with it pointed at my head. At that very moment our bicycle repair guy in the shop about 15 feet away overinflated a bike tire inner tube and it popped. Fortunately I did not have to go home to change my underwear; I don't know about the customer who left rather quickly.

Yep. I got carded at Wallace World the other day to buy a $7.00 machete. LOL. I was nice about it and thanked the nice pretty lady.

Conversely, I like to mess around with the poor young cashiers they put behind some of the sporting goods counters.

"I'm supposed to ask if this ammo is for a handgun or a rifle".

    "Neither, it's for a blunderbuss".

Happened to me at Buffalo Wild Wings, asked for my ID, I replied I was old enough to be their father, after looking at my ID they said nope, old enough to be my grand dad. Said it was policy to card everyone. I laughed when I read in the paper a couple of weeks later they were caught selling to underage customers.

Probably same guy that told my wife: "This is the men's section of Bass Pro"

Funny, On Target didn't mind taking the $$$ that was in her pocket.

Bass Pro seems to have a few people in the firearms department who are ultra conservative about Maryland laws. I dropped by at lunch time a while back and asked to see a handgun in the display case. I was told that he could not take it out it unless I could show him my HQL, because allowing me to hold it would constitute a transfer. There are too many firearms dealers in the area for me to tolerate that kind of stupidity.

Better yet, next time a cashier asks for your phone number simply state "Since I've been in the witness protection program, I'm not allowed to give it out."

I was in the Walmart in Cambridge Saturday dickering around in the fishing area and partially overheard the following.
"I was just released from the hospital where I was voluntarily admitted for psych care after having an issue with my wife. I wasn't taking my meds but now I am. They put me back on them while I was in the hospital voluntarily. I want to know if I can buy a gun today or am I going to be flagged?"

He was very anxious in his speech and wearing duck boots with shorts. He was making the sales lady very uncomfortable and kept repeating his questions and the vague story of how he was hospitalized.

Was there a chance he was an anti, video recording his encounter to "prove how easy it is for anyone to get guns"?
