If you were looking at a M44 and T53 in pretty much the same condition and could only buy one, which one would it be and why? Thanks everyone

By the same condition, you mean a totally beat M44 or a really nice T53? If could only get one, I'd get a really nice M44. They are generally much nicer than the T53s (have matching nums, stocks that aren't beat up, etc). Buy once, cry once.

I will say that South Carroll Sporting Goods has two nice T53s in stock for I think $135. I believe they also have M44s. Might pay you to stop by there tonight and compare the rifles side by side. One might speak to you.

If I was going to shoot it a lot, a T53. If I was more into the collecting & investing, the M44.

I plan on shooting it. I have had firearns that sat in the safe and either haven't been fired at all or haven't been fired in years. Came to the realization the other day that I'm probably not going to sell any unless its a dire emergency so I may as well shoot them. If not I'm only storing them and after I die someone will get some nice firearms.

If you can find a 46/47/48 dated M44 buy it because it will be built better than a war time M44.

All T53s are post war and are built much better any M44 (IMO). The front sight base and triggers especially.

M44 gets my vote. Personally I'd lean towards a wartime one for history's sake. Personally, mine's an early 1945 and shoots great.

How do the 1943 M44's stack up? I know they are more desirable as collector items, but my guess is they would be the roughest yet since they are pre-issue models. I have shot my 43 once, but it has gone back into the safe never to be shot again.

I have a '43 that's really nicely made. The machine marks are nicer than any other war time rifle i've seen.

But I will admit my T53 has a smoother and tighter action.

Just one... M44. I think they look a LOT nicer (An average M44 IMO looks about 2-3 times better than an average T53). That being said, most people I know or talk to on forums who own both say their T53's are more accurate, have crisper triggers, and/or have better handling bolts.
