I took my dad and the garand (same one you got) I got him for his birthday out to the range a couple weeks ago. 8 rounds to sight her in, and the next three were in a 1" circle at 50 yards with greek surplus. Not too shabby :) CMP does a fantastic job!

Sweet rifle. If its like most you will like have some op rod rubbing on the stock as well as the bolt contacting the stock. Make sure you check these as the bolt strike can cause a crack....

    It's a beauty and I'm mightily jealous!

A Garand's on my short list, but I haven't yet decided to go for an original, collector grade example or something more akin to what you got from CMP.

Btw post more details. I.e. barrel date and drawing numbers for other parts ;-)

Ok I'll post more tomorrow, only took those few before work.

When did you send your order out?

Sent out via snail mail last week in October 2013. I didn't include my estore # on the app, so I only know when they charged my credit card (1/15/14) and when it got shipped (1/22/14). By the way, I received ZERO correspondence from them. No order received or shipping emails.....

That's a nice looking stock. My new production was colored like a pumpkin. I have a GI HRA stock set that I would be willing to sell you. PM me if you're interested.

There is a collector grade on the CMP auction site now. Collector grades have become auction only items. Going to be pricey.

    Grease it up, right?

Where the bolt hits the stock you should relieve the stock a bit. It was very obvious where mine was hitting after firing a few rounds. Took about one minute with an exacto knife. My op rod didn't rub so I'm not sure how to fix it. I assume you would relieve the stock there also. Sand it down probably?
