I've always been interested in firearms and military stuff, wanted one for target practice and the thrill of owing one, but the main push for me was when I got robbed in Oct of last year in Baltimore city. Don't want to get into all the details but the thief stole $44 from me and tried to get even more. That was the turning point for me and I seriously thought about my personal security.

I will never let that situation repeat itself.

Good Luck, using a firearm in Md. to protect yourself is frowned upon by the powers that be.:sarcasm:

Asking me why i decided to acquire a firearm is like asking why I decided to carry a pocket knife. It was the way I was raised and is just a normal part of being an American citizen. It would seem strange not to own either firearms or pocket knives.

Yup!! I carry a pen in my pocket because I might have to use it, same with a firearm.

I don't think I ever not had one. So like someone said, it was how I was raised. It was not a decision to go purchase a firearm. I still have the H&R topper 410 my dad and I used to shoot when I was a kid. Once I turned 18, I did buy my own.

I was a shooter as a kid, and got away from it while raising a family.

Once my oldest got into the Navy, he convinced me to start back to it, so I began picking up one here, one there (and may or may not have purchased one or more;)).

About that same time, we noticed that while the neighborhood itself was still pretty good, what was passing through it was getting worse.

Grew up nieve to the real world due to parents/religious beliefs, but woke up when my younger brother was shot 8 times during an attempted robbery at a local store. Thankfully he survived and I've been collecting ever since for home protection and recreation.

I played hockey through college and for several years after. Getting into shooting gives me the satisfaction of doing something competitive and challenging myself without continuing the wear and tear on my body.

Having a firearm also helps me sleep better at night. Knowing if an intruder was to enter was to enter my home while I am sleeping, I have more to greet them with than me in boxers.

where I am from everyone had guns and I never knew there were people who didn't until they bussed us up the road for high school. as far as I am concerned everyone should always have a gun handy. its just natural.

I grew up in a neighborhood where only criminals and drug dealers had guns. Then I went to CO and found out that it wasn't so bad and a lot of fun.

I imported these ideas back to MD.

My wife was a classic example of an anti-gun liberal until she was car jacked at gunpoint. Now with a little help she's gearing up to get her CCW from FL.
