I'd like holster drawing done at a particular time or something. Call me skeptical but I sometimes see people who barely know how to safely operate a firearm. I don't want those people trying to do cowboy tricks in the stall next to me.

As with a previous poster, I'm interested in knowing whether drawing from a holster will be permitted.

Even if you have to demonstrate to the CRO [at a one-time check-out] that you are competent and safe, I think letting qualified individuals practice this skill would be a welcome bonus.

    Good luck!

Beign able to draw from the holster would be a big plus for me as some of the classes I teach require it (PPOTH comes to mind).
    Per their FAQ page (http://themachinegunnest.com/FAQ/):
The Machine Gun Nest FAQ said:
Q: Will you allow drawing from holsters for those wanting to practice for IDPA or CCW?
A: Same as the NRA range on this one… Only belt holsters, placed on the same hip as the shooting hand, may be used on the range. Shoulder holsters and cross-draw holsters may not be used unless authorized by the Range Officer during designated training courses.

Well, I wish you the best of luck - but know from experience that a good percentage of the expense in a decent 20+ lane gun range is in the HVAC system - indoor range ventilation is vital for a healthy environment to keep a vast majority of the vaporized lead away from the shooter and cast it downrange where it can be collected and exhausted safely. It is make up air units, filtration systems - all balanced so that the risk to shooters is minimized without making the range "too breezy." It's all kinds of NIOSH and OSHA standards that must be met before inspectors will sign off on the HVAC.

This what I do for a living, and I've seen decent systems running $75,000 - not chump change considering the cost of the range construction and the cost of the gun inventory, etc.

Considering that today you can get a 7 1/2 ton AC unit for a building for about $10,000 installed...gun range HVAC is very expensive.

I really hope you can raise the capital you need. Good luck!

Hello again MD Shooters. Just a quick update for you guys.

First is was really good meeting so many of you at the Silverado show this weekend. Your feedback was really helpful. I was surprised by the number of you who had read about us already! Please continue to send us messages and emails as we get closer to opening so we can make this the best range possible.

Second, to address the issue of holstered fire… You guys bring up some really good points. We will at a minimum have a process check out people who want to holster fire before they do so. We are working with some great people on range procedures in order to maximize safety and still give everyone a great place to shoot.

For more questions, we are updating our FAQ page constantly.

So what I'm trying to figure out is when you are going to open. What are your regular rates for range time? And if I pay today, 150 or whatever for a one year membership when does that start and end? I looked over the site and there is a lot of yay yay gobldygook but seems to be lacking in hard info.

Seems to me I'm paying for a membership to a facility that doesn't exist. And you will have to pardon me this isn't the first rodeo of this sort I was asked to attend. The dude that opened Barely and Hops tried the same thing years ago with the local homebrew club.

Is there a lane large enough to house a front clip of a car? I like to shoot TJ Hooker style. You know, throw one leg up while running, slide across the hood, come down into a roll, rise up on one knee and then shoot.
