My younger sister is getting married in 2 weeks and I want to give her husband a 12 gauge as a wedding present. I want to be able to hand it thim the night of the rehearsal dinner. Legally what is the best way to accomplish this. Also do you guys have any suggestions in the $150-300 price range. I'd really like to give him an 870 express but it looks like they are a little to spendy.

Just wrap the box. Keep it subtle. Classy. Also great wedding gift!

While I truly appreciate your sentiments, you may want to rethink this one. I am not saying don't give the gift of equal protection, but rather consider how it is delivered. A nice card during the dinner, with the actual gift given later - not during the rehearsal dinner - may be the ticket. Otherwise, despite your excellent intentions you may risk offending those less 2A inclined and get a lot of stares for the rest of the weekend. A wedding is not the place to take or project a 2A stand - be fore warned.

After rereading my post I should have been clearer. I'm not gonna give him the shotgun DURING dinner but that later that evening in private. What I meant by how do I give it to him was I want to avoid this being a straw purchase. Do I need to get this transfered to him? I would normally just pay for the gun and have him pick it up but I want to be able to physically give him the gun.I love giving guns and nra memberships as gifts.

If you are both residents of the same state and he has no disqualifiers for owning a gun, it's as simple as giving him the gun. It's not a straw purchase if it's a bona fide gift.

Here's what the Form 4473 says in the back about question 11a.
You are also the actual transferee/buyer if you are legitimately
purchasing the firearm as a gift for a third party... if Mr. Brown
goes to buy a firearm with his own money to give to Mr. Black as a present, Mr. Brown is the actual transferee/buyer of the firearm and should answer “YES” to question 11.a.
