Wow! I field stripped my Mark III tonight for the first time. It took me an hour and a half. What a pain in the ass!!!!! What a lousy break down design. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this pistol. Real quality! But damn! What were they thinking? You really have to watch That stupid swinging pin inside the handle that a little bigger than a needle. If that thing isn't in the right position, you'll never get the thing back together. My wife and I watched several YouTube videos until we finally found one which explained all that. Then bam! It finally worked. If you have one of these, this video will save you a ton of time.

I hear you. I love this gun but I too took probably about 90 minutes to get it back together the first time I tried. What a pain.

I found this video particularly helpful to me:

The only addition I would make to any of these videos is that on my gun I have to manually manipulate the hammer forward when putting it back together. This "rotate it to the sky" portion with gravity is not sufficient to get my hammer to fall into place. Mine is just too tight. But no worries - once I figured that out I just use a Q-tip or something to push it forward.

Other than that I follow the video above, no problems since.

When I bought mine from gun connection.. Dan showed me how to take it apart.. It took him 5 minutes to put it back together so my 45 minutes didn't feel so bad.... Kidding!

Yeah, I saw that video. But, mine had to have been put together with superglue, 'cause nothing came apart, or, went back together that easy. Check out that video link I had in my original post. That one explained that tiny pin I spoke of. But, I will save your video as well. Thanks!

First time I cleaned my MkII, after 10 tries, I took the parts back to a dealer and he had it together after 10 seconds. He laughed and said it just takes practice.

Get the Speed Strip kit from Majestic Arms! Makes cleaning a snap, especially since I use the Ruger MARK II/MMARK III for my classes.

    Heh.

Took apart my brother's '50's era Mark I, took a few minutes to get apart. Took 2 days and a lot of cursing and cigarettes to get it back together.

He had taken his down to bare frame to refinish it, lost pins, forgot how to do some things, handed it off to me.
