The truth is that it just isn't on the minds of the average citizen. The ones pushing for gun control are a small group of people who float back and forth between groups using different names in order to appear larger than they are.

The usual suspects will be there, but I don't look for a huge swell of regular Joes screaming for an AWB. Then again, it's all speculation at this point.

I'm inclined to agree. There might be some people who are pro-AWB, but just don't care quite enough to come testify. When asked, people always have an opinion about something. But those people often don't feel strongly enough to, say, come somewhere to testify/show support. Unfortunately that applies to both pro-2A people and anti-2A people. But I think it will hurt them more than it will hurt us.

I just sent out the MSI information on this bill to the former State Commander of the VFW and asked him to pass it on to the current Commander as well as the State Commanders of the DAV, AMVETS and any other Veteran organization this bill affects.

I'll look through those as well, but what I would recommend...

    Be respectful, and respectable.
Be factual, but don't kill them with details (written works well for that).
Make it personal to your own situation if needed, but not overly emotional.
    Don't get into hyperbole.
Finish with a solid summary of the key point you want to get across, and leave them thinking.

Hi, I'm new to the site, and I'm afraid I haven't had a chance to read through the entire thread yet, so forgive me if someone has already mentioned this, but:

This abomination does not appear to just affect the 2nd Amendment - at a glance, it may affect some of the other ones, too. For examples, the parts of this bill that force us to register our lawfully-purchased private property would seem to run against:

Fourth Amendment - "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Fifth Amendment: "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

A running theme throughout the bill is that it presumes that gun owners are guilty of some nebulous conspiracy to commit evilness, until we jump through enough hoops to prove our innocence enough that the State grudgingly gives us permission to lawfully and peacefully exercise our rights, until it can think of some other way to infringe upon them.

If you google "fire on american citizens" today you'll get 42 million hits!

Obama asking military leaders to fire on Americans, says Nobel Prize nominee

    http://www.examiner.com/article/oba...to-fire-on-americans-says-nobel-prize-nominee

"I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new "litmus test" in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. "The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not". Those who will not are being removed."

Can someone who's familiar with the MD Senate Committee protocol answer me this:

Can we have one of our allies on the Judiciary committee insert a poison pill in the form of CCW? I know the bill has been submitted to strike the "G&S reason" and since the AWB covers a lot of the same ground (to include that specific section of law), I think it would be proper to combine the 2 bills.

If we poison the well with CCW for regular citizens, Frosh will either have to let us carry or let the AWB die. Either way we win and we'd go back and fight the part of the law that survived.

I hope this is possible. IF we have to suffer through an assault weapons ban, having the ability to carry will at least make it bareable until we can take the ban to court, although I hate the fact that we've been degraded to bargaining for our rights... :mad54:

Could someone help me rank the senate judiciary members (or categorize)? I'll make extra calls / emails on the fence sitters. I assume that SB281 needs 6 votes to proceed?

Members are Raskin, Frosh, Gladden, Brochin, Getty, Forehand, Jacobs, Muse, Shank, Stone and Zirkin

    Fanatical grabber: Frosh, Raskin
    Junior grabber: ?
    Fence sitter: ?
    Friendly: Jacobs, Shank

AWB has failed in the past, how did that vote go down?

I didn't see where anyone said this, but I received this reply from James Brochin:

...I held a meeting over the weekend to discuss this legislation, and the turnout was good. I have some homework to do as a result, and as I promised to the group, I will work on getting rid of onerous parts while pushing for reforms in the mental health arena and tougher sentencing for criminals.

    Jim

That makes it sound that he is leaning to our side. He didn't outright say he is opposed and didn't define exactly where he sits on banning what and how, so any of you who are in his district, perhaps you can help "encourage" him.

ultimately i think Frosh would fear CCW by the public more than he wants an AWB...thus the poison pill.

Brochin doesn't mention anything about the AWB portion of the bill. The way I read it he sounds like he is conceeding that something is going to pass. He needs to be reminded that everything about this bill is unacceptable, not just parts of it.

He sounds like he is liable to try and split the baby in half and possibly give his Dem colleagues something, possibly their AWB in exchange for modifying the language found in the mental health restrictions or licensing requirements. If this is Brochin's strategy, it is a totally unacceptable one.

I was at the meeting. My opinion is that he was for AWB and for Magazine limits, but against all licensing, registration and fees.

If my memory is correct, he was asked if he would vote for this bill if it made it to the floor with licensing and registration intact. I believe he said no.

    Guys,

Just though I'd confirm, I've spoken with the NRA ILA and they confirmed their Maryland Rep is in already in Annapolis currently, and will remain there until the 6th. She, is planning on attending the meeting on the 6th, as well as speaking (did not get a name).

Just wanted to pass that along. Additionally they said they have been sending post cards to MD members with details about the bill as well as next Wednesdays meeting.

Also, has the local media been suitably informed about a potential large gathering to help get some coverage? Perhaps nominate a spokesperson who could give some good soundbytes for the evening news?

A lot of those details are being worked on behind the scenes. I'm not privy to many of the details, but I'm guessing more information will be forthcoming.

    Welcome aboard.
