Is there any way to get a replacement approval letter? I got mine years ago and just cannot find it - not with all other paper work in a safe.

Pretty sure someone else said they thought they had to re-apply because of a move or card/letter faded. He called the MSP they said there was no need that his information was already on file. I would just call the MSP or email and find out.

I have word that they have reviewed applications received by the 25th. Letters are mailed so be patient.

If you have a any discrepancy in your application, it goes in a hold pile.

My application was put in that hold file because my application showed my current address and their database showed a different address for my last known transaction in the 1980's. It appears that my very recent approval on a lower with my current address was not in the system when they ran me for the Designated Collector application.

    Resolved and approved.

    No other restrictions?

I was looking into this and a fellow at my local gun store explained that once a collector, ALL sales I would conduct would be considered a regulated transfer - regulated firearm or not.

Where do I look to clarify this?

Not sure where to look for clarity, but I'll tell you that guy is full of BS. Only thing that changes is you no longer have to wait 30 days between regulated purchases.
If you were buying a cash and carry firearm, how would anybody know if you were a collector unless you told them, the only form you would fill out on a C&C firearm would be the 4473, they would have no reason to fill out the 77R.

Thanks. I've also been sitting here reading all the related legal docs I could find (while watching the Ravens game) and don't see anything that supports his claim.

So the form is printing now!

If you've recently bought a regulated firearm, they already did the BG check. :)

I am waiting for the paperwork to come back now on a regulated purchase. I sent the paperwork for the collector a few days after purchasing and submitting the paperwork for the regulated purchase.

I just thought I read somewhere that there was an additional background check for the collector status.

I don't work for the state, so I'm not sure. I just remember getting my dc letter a week after I submitted the paperwork. I just figured since I had just picked up a revolver, they used that BG check...

I sent out my application early last week and started to get impatient (tends to happen when NY passes strictrer gun regs in record time) since there are a few regulated guns that I have always wanted to own and I have the cash to get them now. I e-mailed Lauretta Thompson to see what the expected wait time is these days. She originally replied "3-4 weeks" to which I replied "Thank you very much!" I then received another reply that said "I am current through December 31 as of today" I was very happy with the reply time and it is clear they are working hard to get these out the door.

Hopefully I get the "not dissapproved" e-mail before a ban that prevents me from owning an M1A....

If you are in a 30 day waiting period and your approved as a collector in the middle of that waiting period, does that clear the slate and your good to go on new purchases?

No one "needs" a replacement ... its a box to check on MD's purchase form; kept in MSP's database

I would bet that some want to carry the letter when transporting their "collection".

I keep seeing posts about how being a collector means you have greater leeway with where you can transport. So when someone is going to a friends house with weapons, they think that the letter would demonstrate to LEO that they are on their way to a "private show". I'd like to see how that works out for them............

Actually, i would think your scenarion would qualify as a GSR for a CCW permit....protecting your collection...after all, who wants all those evil rifles to fall on the hands of criminals?:innocent0
